The one bait I won't go without in the winter is lugworm (blows, slappy blacks fresh & frozen or yellowtails)- other baits such as crab, mussel, razor, and mackerel/bluey all have their place too in my bucket. It depends where I'm fishing and what the conditions are really. The one bait I've never had much luck with is squid, don't know why but it's done nowt for me!
Big slappy black with a frozen crab or ball of mussel on the bottom for piers and rough ground. Squid and bluey cocktail for the deeper water up north. Lug/blacks and razor for the beaches.
