Thinking about towing a small boat up to Scotland for a weekend in the summer time. Anyone know of any good places with slipways nearby

depends how far you want to drag it! Take mine up and around ardnamurchan/mallaig/mull

plenty free slips all along the coast there

Cheers lads Withorn looks good and a couple of slipways near port
William as well .Mark if i go that far up i end up with a nose bleed lol
The lads that i am going with reckon Oban but as i say it might be a bit to much of a treck

plenty of slips in and around oban, but its a drag, takes us about 10hours to ardnamurchan with the boat in tow.

Loch long NW of glasgow used to be a superb place for cod but its been well and truly fished out, although I\'ve heard tales that it is making a recovery and there\'s still quite a few haddock to be had there.

there a canny few place to launch south of the clyde which give access to some decent marks.

have a look at http://www.boatlaunch.co.uk

its not a comprehensive list, but has plenty of slips on the west coast

Craig if you go to oban you can launch at the puffin dive center for £3.00 and it has a secure car park.there are pollack all along the rugged coast line that can be caught trolling jelly worms etc.or if you have never done it before you can target the large skate on the smaller tides, in between kererra and mull 150mtrs depth and while you have baits down for the skate you can also fish some lighter gear and get conger 20lb+, spurdog, doggies, and the rare blackmouthed doggies which have cracking markings on them.
there aslo a campsite right next to it or oban itself has plenty b&bs

Cheers gogs I thought Oban was a bit to far to travel. So taking Berts (Tadpoleman) recommendation and trying for Whithorn.Waiting for a reply of a campsite so any info on and around Whithorn would be a great help

craig the only probs with the whithorn area are if the smoothies, tope, bass fail to show up then theres not much else to target
m8

I dont fancy driving all that way. So thought Whithorns closer and we are taking the beach casters in case we cant get out on the boat. And try a few rock marks .If all else fails there are plenty of pubs

its not that bad
mind you i wouldnt gaan down with a boat on my back
lol
there is some very strong tides over the end of the mull

give me a shout nearer the time as i\'m local ie stranraer and could give you a heads up as to wheres hot or not

Port logan aeems a good bet or stairhaven at the head of luce bay

whithorn: new slip on outside of harbour. access all times. usable by car. summer plenty tope and pollack.
port william: high water by car, 4/4 all other times. access to luce bay. inshore fishing for pollack etc and tope near the scars.
stairhaven; high tide by car, 4/4 all other times. again access to luce bay.
sandhead: access by 4/4 only....luce bay
new england bay: 4/4 only
drummore: harbour slip 2 hrs high water, beach access near ship inn, 4/4 only.
east tarbet: best by 4/4 as road in can be poor but it can be done by a car+rope. strong tides in this area+ good fishing. not for beginners.
port logan: access all times. beach launch which is possible by car. best spot for mixed fishing.
hope that helps.

Hi Gordon,
been at whithorn over the last couple of weeks.
spent most of my time on wrecks miles out. at one point i was 17 miles out. fishing on these wrecks has been mixed. weather is the problem.
not much inshore yet. hopefully this mild weather and the extended daylight will kick things of.
