Which boat multiplier please?

I have had a Penn 320GT and now a brand new Diawa Firewolf - 4.2 to 1. However being a big Jessie I would like a multiplier with a better gear ratio ie less revolutions for more line retrieved. Too old for this long reeling in nonsense! I also want a level wind.

Any ideas please?

A level wind to trap your fingers mark :) :) they always get you in the end and when its a big fish pulling the line out with finger in beside the level wind it's a bhitch ...... :)

I used to be a penn fan but the last 5 or 6 years (since they stopped making the the good LD Penns) there is no better than the Shimano TLD 15 .... excellent Lever Drag reel that has stood the test of time (and the proof is so many have them) ..... 100%

regarding the level wind ... I never even think of it, just turn the rod on its axis a few degrees a bit to the right when reeling in then a bit to the left etc etc every 30 secs or so and the bend in the rod moving from right to left will spread the line.

good luck mate ... will be listening in close, this weekend seems to be a corker, hope your still down here for it.

Same as Norman level wind paiiiinffuuulll keep away :)

The TLD15 will handle all your needs, the only draw back is the bearings they use are crap and just about everyone i know has had to change them with in 2 seasons if used often...mind they onyl £2 or something each so its fine.

I picked my TLD up from the net for £68 but most around the £75-£85 mark new.

Haha, now you have me worried re level winds! Lynn has a TLD25, she loves it, I'm not convinced. Will speak to Duncan on the boat tomorrow.

Yes Norm, we are down til next Friday. Tomorrow, Sunday and Wednesday trips still to come. Got the sun lotion packed.........and not the glitter stuff Lynn gave me last time. Looked like I was auditioning for a dance show!!

Better get to sleep soon, 415am alarm call!

I have a barely used Penn 320LD - leverdrag boat reel with levelwind for sale if your interested.

If not why not buy a saltist 30 or similar then you have a good reel that can also be used on the shore as well!

Should be a cracking few days fishing for you then...dont be put off if the fishing slow in the morning it will pick up in the afternoon when wind against tide for them big ling i am sure :)

We are out Sat and Sunday and 1 of them days i am planning a trip 20+ miles out...sometimes worth it sometimes not but not often you get light wind and flat seas so worth a bash :)

Good luck when your out but i dont think you will need it for the Friday and Sunday trip :) :)
