Which fishing line?

I am looking to find some 40lb line but when you look at what's available the price varies enormously from very cheap to expensive.

I have already decided I want mono rather than braid so what does everyone use? What can you recommend?

Thanks

As well as my original question could somebody tell me why braid is preferred over mono? What are the advantages? Is it as easy to tie knots with?

Smaller diameter, no stretch so you feel every knock, nibble and snag :-)

Just tie a loop at the end to attach a snap link.

Less drag in the water, and you feel every knock are the main things i reckon.
Fishing in deeper water i find your line stays vertical better with lighter weights as opposed to thicker mono catching the tide and having to use heavy weights..:)

Gotta be braid for boat fishing , 50lb braid is far thinner than 40 lb mono , hangs loose, doesn't coil up, get far more on the spool , less drag in the tidal flow, needs less weight to hold bottom, transmits every bump and knock , you can feel the steel of the wreck as you bounce your lead over it. On a boat, there are no downsides to braid , it's far superior to mono.
Don't tie knots in it , just tie a snap swivel on the end and attach your mono rigs directly to that , it's that simple , don't fill your boat reel with mono :(
As for brands, power pro is as good as it comes , no need to pay £100 for a spool though, buy it from china off eBay , same stuff, even the same label for about £20 for 1500 yards .

Another vote for cheap Chinese braid, 50lb ,normally comes on a power pro spool.

Last lot took less than 3 weeks to arrive.

If you've never tried braid before, defo give it a go.

Got to be PowerPro - best on the market, using Dyneema is like using clothes line (sorry Norman). If I had to use mono it would only be Berkely Big Game / Daiwa sensor.
