hmm..just got back from whitby after a couple days camping. And fishing, obviously. Fished sandsend mon, having read a glowing report from the previous week was pretty excited. We didn't have a single bite in 4 or 5 hours. Went out on a boat this morning and got a couple of codling (my first) and a single mackerel, then went up to Skinningrove jetty.
Not one bite there either.. salmon jumping right in front of us, people leaving with fish as we arrived, but nowt. What a cool place to fish though, views are amazing and all the old trainline machinery in the end of the pier definitely makes it worth a visit. Will be going back there.
maybe next time...

fished the pier twice a couple years ago the gate was always locked so had to get round it, dodgy as,then on end it was bloody terrafying looking down the shaft, after reading someone fell down one of them shafts didnt go again, is it still the same, as you say the scenary was awesome:eek:

it was a bit sketchy on the end, the worst bit was snagging then not having the room to walk back with my rod, fortunately the rusty support my line was dragging over cut through it and saved me a job..i moved to the other side. there are a couple of platforms you can get down onto, bit slimy but more room to cast etc, plus totally sheltered from the wind. Access was no bother, the path from the car park at the dge of the village goes straight onto it, think the gate's only in the way if you come down the hill to it. One of the most interesting places I've ever fished.
I'll put some pics on here but can't remember my photobucket login as havn't used it for ages. too many failed logins...
