Had a few hours out tonight for my first session since new years day. After a bit of humming and haa-ing about where to fish in these strong winds I eventually decided to brave it and headed for Shields pier.
Arrived just after 5:30to find hardly a breath of wind and hardly anyone fishing. Got set up by the rail end and straight away was into fish and a canny Whiting of just under 40cm. And that was the pattern for the rest of the session - bites every cast which more often than not ended up in a good size fish on the pier. Ended up with 7 or 8 in a three hour session - I called it a night just after 9pm when the wind got up and started howling down the pier. Was glad I never made the trek further up as even just walking off from the rail end into the wind was a bugger. Lugworm either on its own or tipped with a sliver of bluey got the fish; interestingly bluey on its own never got a sniff.
This one I photographed for the species hunt was probably the littlest of the night...
