i have never really bothered with whities more often than not returning them or giving them away.
Yesterday i caught a couple of big ones off the Heugh and a lad on the pier was telling me how to cook them.
Went to Morrisons today and bought some batter mix for 41p. Followed instructions and deep fried.
I was amazed at just how nice they are. I had one fish which i filleted myself with some chips and peas.
I think this is one of the best plates of fish and chips i,ve ever had.:)
Caught it,prepared it,cooked it and ate it.

nice one mick. i agree they taste good, its just the gut full of worms that put me off a bit. have you tried them fried after just dipping in seasoned flour?

Gut worms

Gut worms

I've caught Whiting from the tyne that have worms in their guts and their flesh. Yak! Whether they are fat or skinny they all seem to be riddled with the blooming things. Mick, were your whiting free of worms? Is it just the whiting from the rivers that have worms? If so, why? (On the one occasion that I caught a beautiful 1lb4oz whitey at Blyth Beach, it had no worms and tasted lovely pan-fried without batter):)

Never saw any worms but i did notice on one i filleted the liver was pocked with red/white spots as was the inside of the flesh of the fish. This went in the bin.
