Fished last night starting just before high water using rag and fresh blacks. Started off from the promenade near the boat station end and caught four fish over the next couple of hours. Nothing special apart from a 2lb bass which would have made my night. Then moved to the beach to fish the tide down. Caught another couple including one of 4.5 lb on my last cast. I'd have been happy ending with one of these but to catch a decent fish and a bass in the same session made it a bit special.

would of returned the bass like

Why? They are not rare nor are they endangered. The fish in question is of legal size and will make a very nice meal.

Nowt worse than people coming on forums and criticising other anglers for keeping legally sized fish. All I can say to the OP is well done on a cracking session, enjoy the Bass and just ignore the knockers who have nowt positive to say about an obviously rewarding nights fishing.

Couldn't agree more the amount of fish (of any species) anglers take will never really have any major impact commercial fishermen are the one's that do the damage

Spot on mate, imho every angler has a right to take any fish over size to eat. 100% sustainable way to feed the family.
