Yes not for the sake of trying though. On me todd up with the larks again to catch a favourable tide and beat the forcasted SE wind ,aimed to be fishing before 7 and wrap up at 9. Just a small Easterly swell rolling in which with a Se breeze forcast could play up quickly so needed to keep an eye on the weather.Paddled out from boat station no sgn of life on the sounder ,not a blip all morning 1 1/4ml both ways ,anchored up near the yellow can an hour there for two scotch haddocks had a move another hour saved by half a doz coalies. Few photos.

Waiting game anchor down with small drogue deployed to steady yak.

Small scotchie hoyed back.....[gently released]

Yes thats better.........[ knocked on the head ]

Coalies made a show four better ones for fishcakes ,yum yum

Dont know where the cod are boats were getting nowt and no commercial gear in sight....Dave.

Thats if our Iceland friends have left any after the winter long netting they have been doing in the depths of the north sea/Atlantic.

It is strange what has happend to the cod, not even the trawlers are getting much. I was down the fish quay today and as always made sure i caught a trawler lad for a quick chat. Even thou he was a prawn trawler not white fish trawler he was also saying how few fish they are getting in the nets upto 30miles off the coast.

I asked him if he had had any mackerel yet but he said no just a few hauls of herring and very little white fish, even the whiting have vanished and they like cold water so whats goning on err.

Just need that trigger point and the sea be alive again i am sure, just hope it hurrys up since i wont be fishing in July or the 1st week in Aug this year with being away...short season for me this year

Good report and pics Dave. After I seen you I lost the lot drifting, took another look around me and thought, sod this, not a bite, not another soul about, cold and grey, so headed back in. Think I'll go trout fishing till the fish return.

Trawlers are netting whole shoals of Mackerel. Madness. Short term gain. A few might escape but will be mopped up by predators.
