just booked a week in june wot marks should i try or does most of the coast fish main target pollack and does anyone know any marks i could try a bit of fly fishing for them
cheers for any help by the way all fish will be returned apart from the odd mackeral just in case you where worried about me taking all the big fish from your fav marks

Chris, there are any amount of marks. Try the back of the isle of Whithorn itself for pollack/wrasse. Other marks iclude Cairn head (My favourite) and all the marks off the burrow head campsite. Travel light with spinning gear and just keep trying different places.

aye, most of the coast fishes very well.
last time i was there my mate had 2 doggies before i even set up.
my favourite bait up there is: sandeel,mackeral and squid.
cheap bait and it works VERY well.
i fished a few mile down from burrow head near a little white house.
dont no the name.....some other lads might, and it fished very well indeed...with a variety of dogfish, pollack, wrasse etc . . .
going back up in the summer again.

Johnny, take some ragworm with you next time mate

I never take my big gear up now, bored stiff of doggies. Prefer a rucksack, couple of packets of frozen sandeels, Redgills and ragworm, togeether with a rod set up for floatfishing and a rod for spinning.

Chris you could try Monreith beach next to the caravan site,that normally throws up something different ! also Port William can be ok off the beach.
The Mull will fish well for Pollock but avoid if you have\'nt fished it before or you are on your own,not for the faint hearted.
St Ninians cave is a lovely walk,park at the farm car park and walk down the wooded valley,can be muddy and wet at times if you have family with you,fish either side of the bay off the rocks,lures rubber eel,spinners and floats,it can be heavy on gear if bottom fishing.

cheers lads looks like spinning and fly gear for me wot type of rod is best for spinning frozen sand eels will a carp rod do or do you need a bit more lead than a carp rod can handle

carp rod will be fine Chris,should be able to cast 3 or 4 oz with one,thats more than enough

Like Alan says, a carp rod is spot on Chris. I use my carp rod for floatfishing and a conoflex assassin with braid for spinning.
