Why?

Fished Shields pier today, needed some mackerel for the freezer, anyway there were 2 lads fishing next to us, ( they were there before we got there), they must have pulled about 50-60 mackerel in using 5 hook daylights and threw every one back, the only reason they left was that they run out of leads, what the hell is the point, if they want sport use a spinner and if the recent research is true all those fish will die, we even told the them this but they carried on anyway. Cannot fathom some people out.

Macky season can and is silly season for a hell of alot of idiots, my trips out i used 5 daylights then drop it to 3 then spinner when i got my supply for the winter season.Although it's stupid what alot do, i'm glad most of these idiots don't fish the winter months.

It wasn't me I was on the end Sunday AM 6.30 - 9.00 with spinning rod and only kept 10. What I did notice was a few boats coming in very close and catching lines, no regard for the anglers

You can't educate pork ..... Telling them they'll die after being handled is a waste of breath . Unfortunately mackerel season brings the great fishermen out and you have decimation ..... A lot taken home for the freezer are of poor quality as they've been left in the sun or crushed in buckets in large amounts , it happens every year ... I like a bit sport with a spinner or fly rod if a venue is available but I tend to leave piers alone and get mine from the boat , topped tailed and cool boxed and frozen within one or two hours of catching .
