Pete and I decided during the week to fish the Bob White Memorial comp. I picked Pete up at 6am and we were on the water by 7. What a fantastic day to have a boat comp, slight swell and minimal wind.

So it was out to the wrecks to see if we could get a bigun'. We dropped our daylights 10 feet under the boat and had enough bait within 5 minutes. First wreck and Pete was into what seemed a cracking fish - unfortunately it was a foul hooked ling. The fishing wasn't exactly frantic unfortunately and we had to work for them.

We picked up a few here and there but nothing of any size. I was getting a bit concerned by lunch time, then as the tide slackened we started to get a few better ones...

The visibility was excellent and the drift slowed allowing more time to get the fish....

My new favorite lead head shads were doing the biz also

Worry began to set in as the best we had was only around 5lb and time to secure a prize was slipping away. Then Pete struck into what he announced would be fish of the day, it broke the surface and I grabbed the line to pull it up and then - a splash of water followed by a flick of cod's tail and it was away - b*****s! Then to make Pete even more furious I pulled in this 6lb 10oz er which earned me 15th place and a nice new boat rod...

Then justice was served when Pete pulled in his 7lb 10oz fish that earned him 8th place and a new multiplier..

So we finished at 3:30, weighed our fish in and had a pint in the Schooner for the presentation.

All in all a fantastic day, great competition, prize table and presentation. Thoroughly enjoyed it - can't wait for the next comp. Here's the days catch
