What do you like doing best......Piers?
Beaches?
Rocks?

Then are you bothered about losing tackle?

Then are you after lots of fish 1/2- 2lb or after the 1 off lunker?

These questions will help the lads point you in a better direction.

For me, not like i do much winter fishing but i like Roker pier and Hendon prom for the numbers of fish such as whiting and the odd cod.
Newbig, Whitburn and Lynemouth for the odd better fish and the river Tyne lower for a bag of all sorts.

try the bath mate, aslong as the its low water , its normally a warm mark and if you dont go to close you wont get wet, u myt get a pubefish if you cast towards the plug hole.

it doesnt matter to me if its either piers or beaches the species prefer to try and catch are Bass,Cod,Flounder,Makerel :yltype:

mackrill wont be caught from shore or pier now but you will get the bass codling and flats from most of the beech and pier marks as long as conditions are right

I dont know what type of places you really want to fish and i dont know your fishing ability but if you want to get a few fish and safe fishing then i would try either the river Blyth or the river Tyne, you would probably be able to catch a few different species however i dont think you will catch mackerel or bass though, i'm not sure what your ability is but as long as you have decent bait and a half decent rig i'm sure you will catch some fish in the winter. Also try reading catch reports on the forum or in the newspaper i'm sure this will tell you where the fish are being caught and on what tactics.

rob it's obvious by your post and your following answers you are not an experience match angler, that's not a problem, a lot of the people including me on this site aren't but between us all we have a vast knowledge about sea angling, when you start a thread with [wheres the best place to fish during the winter] we could literally give you a thousand different answers and not one of them would be the one you where looking for, you also leave yourself open to ridicule,be a bit more specific with your questions, eg ask for advice on say beach fishing, what rigs, best time to go, bait to use, is anyone fishing so and so mark and would you mind me coming, all the lads will try to help , good luck for this season
