Wor Lass 2nd July

Just a quick report today, no photo’s. We fished for a few hours in the early afternoon, like everyone else finding mackerel where ever we went. Mark spent half an hour chasing them with a fly rod without any success but we already had enough for bait.

Looking at the other reports all the big fish had been taken long before we got out leaving us to mop us the small stuff. Fish came in steadily without being prolific, two or three off each wreck. Most were pan sized cod in the four to six pound range with only one ling although we only kept one cod for tomorrow’s bbq, and a few macks to try on the new smoker.

Mark finished the day with his biggest hook-up, unfortunately it was his leg that he stuck the hook in as we packed up. The tool kit pliers came in handy; he’s a tough lad unlike his dad.

lots of reports on the forum this year and it's great to read - I know how your lad feels with the hook up...I had a 6/0 through the finger when I was 13

I was quite brave I thought, rushed to Bournemouth General (we were on holiday) and then spent the next 3 hours being consoled by a (rather camp) male Nurse called Wolfgang (Volfy...no joke :o)

no long lasting trauma *tic*

Let us know how the smokier come along as I've got my eye on one as well :)

You've got to get up at silly o' clock:o the day before to get out there first Kevin., but hey, you got fish and macky for the barby. I've often thought about making a smoker, but never got round to it yet. Usually get my smoked mackerel from Morrisons, so let us know how you got on.:):)

next time you speak to kev ask him about the time he put a treble in his mates backside in mull. that led to a wasted day at the local surgery .
i've used the smoker for a while now and it gives the fish a canny flavour although the meths burners are very messy and i swapped them for a camping stove. overall a nice addition to the bbq.

You and me both mopping up the left overs after the main acts have taken all the big fellas Kevin , not that I'm complaining , I like cafching fish whatever the size , spent most of my angling life catching stuff less than a pound and enjoying it so a 5lb cod is a monster :D , hope the lad is not too sore :o

Steve knows well enough what happened, he was there uninjured and hasn’t forgotten after many years. Don't I know it.

We camped on a beach at the MoG and by 4AM (yes, me fishing by 4 in the morning) were up and fishing a rock mark for pollock. Four of us crammed a small area and were keen to get started. One of the group kept wandering past behind us and the inevitable happened involving two points of my spinner’s treble hook and another lads leg – note leg not up the bum like Steve tells everyone.
The hooks were well embedded and wouldn’t pull out, at which point we realised just how few doc’s there are in the area, never mind at 4AM in the morning. We found one eventually and after what sounded like a lot of hard work for doc and patient, the hooks came out and we went fishing again.
