Abandoned by my crew today, I had a short session today, after the rain eased. First stop was over the hard ground at Cullercoats with the Mouth of Tyne festival playing tunes in the background.
Fishing was steady with small coddling and scotchies coming in to lug baited lures. A move to a close in wreck brought the best fish of the day at about 5lbs despite the 1.5knot drift.
With that strength of current it didn’t take long for a mega-drift all the way from the can to Cullercoats, just in time to be overtaken by a pod of dolphins. They must be becoming resident in the area as they show up so often now. Final fish count for the afternoon was about 12 to 15 fish mostly small and all returned.
Best fish of the day, a clean 5 pounder.
Festival flags and dark clouds at the priory.
