Worms!!!

Got a nice Cod off Amble yesterday and when I filletted it today I found worms (3 of them) buried in its flesh!

They were about an inch long and still wriggling!

I aint going to eat this fish now but my neighbours are keen. Obviously I havent told them about the worms!

I can always give it to the moaning miserable gets doon the street, late Xmas gift - peace gift type thing! lol

Will they be OK? (my neighbours)

Also when I gutted it there were worms all over the liver of the fish.

Is this normal, never seen it before but had heard reports of "wormy" fish!

Steve,it's pretty common for the inshore cod to have worms but they are usually in the gut flaps.if you follow charlton's way of filleting cod you leave them with the waste, and ,if you get an odd one in the fillet just pick it out with your knife, they are harmless. I hold the fillet up to the light just to make sure they are not any in the finished fillet. tight lines Jim.:)

Thanks Jim,

I thought it would be ok just had to check, for wor lasses sake really!!!!

Seeing the blighters wriggling aboot has put me off slightly! I've probably eaten loads hidden in chip shop fillets over the years!

I've tried watching the fillet video and can only get the audio without footage.

No bother steve, whiting are worse for worms, but if you block fillet them kipper style it leaves them in the waste. jim:)
