Worst year ever !

For a season that started off great in the cod numbers and size we thought here we go its going to be a bumper season !!
But this has got to be the worst mackerel season i can remember ,for gods sake its nearly the end of July and i have only caught 2 !
Whats going on? has anyone got any reasons and theories ? or am i just a shoit tiger catcher ?

Had loads of mackerel today again seemed like they are back in again. Will let you know if we still get loads again tomorrow. Or if it was just a lucky day.
Got to get that Gurdy working. After all that work

what did you do?

i could have caught thousands

one evening we caught 2 builder buckets full in 2 hours.

my bait freezer is full of 2015 mackerel

I have also struggled ths year, best day has been about 15 on the boat for bait.

The normal marks i.e tide line or Dirty wreck have shown very few, we have hit the odd shoal to keep us going but tis poor. All the other species that show up with the mackerel are here but not them.

Only thing i have read that may of changed them is the Iclantic fleet have taken 128,000 tones year to date, a rise of 124,000 tones from the same time last year...cant be doing the shoals any good that.

11 weeks left until the boat season is over for me and i am away 3 weeks of that so its going quick, glad the fishign is still good, 6hrs out on Monday took 50+ between 2 people and 11 of out mackerel friends

Its good to know that they are still about in numbers and there is still time to catch a few ! i suppose you dont get many mackerel using crab fished on the bottom thanks for the reassurance chaps

Loads of mackerels today...however they were well offshore (4-6 miles) Full houses all over.

we caught them for bait and at the end for the freezer.
good sizes as well

we caught two boxes full off souter today plus 18 cod 3-4lbs I was starting to get worried about mackerel been out fishing for weeks and only caught a few before today so well pleased freezer full and belly full result

well bert there definitely back in force. couldn't get to the wrecks today again without the macs stopping your gear almost everywhere
so from being hard to get at the weekend to millions, a think you need to get out an stock up,
plenty fish as well, nice 16.5lbs ling today and nice stamp of cod to 12lbs.

Heard the same from other boats today, they seem to arrived in millions up and down the coast today...about bloody time

I've been thinking the same this year Bert, the smokers only been on once this year .

Plenty mackerel on evening trip tonight, about 20 cod and a ling 12.5 lb to top the night off

We have only had the smoker on once too Stephen and half the fish smoked were Cod! Tried a local session on Sunday - useless. Hoping when we have a week in Tighnabruaich in ten days it will be better.

Blyth pier has been chucking them out all states of tide...... Only difference I noticed Is when there's a bit more chop on the macky go deeper

Good news that the tigers have arrived in numbers., now the fishing will really take off.
