Wrasse?

I know people catch them in the winter also but are they come in greater numbers during spring/summer? I was tempted to get out with the float this morning with the weather being calm and sunny as i had some good days catching them on the pier last summer

They are supposed to be territorial mate so I read into that they would be here all year around. I know mark had a good few last year so always worth hitting the same marks in calm weather... I'd put money on them being there. Lad had one on the boat last week which was in the report section. Best of luck!!

When I was on roker pier all afternoon on Saturday and the sea was really calm, I was wishing I had a float with me to drop down the side.

I tried quite a few times for wrasse last year but never got one so my mission for this year is to get a Wrasse (also a Plaice or two, and a Bass!)

Lol Andy. I'm sure the wrasse and plaice shouldn't be too hard to sort out. Just head along shields pier around where mark fished last ear and you will catch our wrasse mate. 44 area chucks out plenty of plaice, especially now your not having to rely on your Ron Thompson for distance. I'm sure you will add a good few more species aswell!

Yeah i fished with Mark for them a few times in the summer we had some decent ones and lost a few also, I might try sometime this week if the weather plays ball that is

With the sea flat no reason not to have a go with the float. I was having this conversation the other day on the SAR facebook page about wrasse in the winter. I was saying that maybe it is to do with water clarity that the fish dont take bait as they seem to rely on sight more than smell. I have very little experience of wrasse fishing but it seems like they prefer a moving wriggling bait to a more static one, preferring live worms and crabs. If the sea is flat at the weekend I may have a go myself.

Hi, In all years fishing I have never seen a Wrasse caught from Shields pier.
Caught plenty at Eyemouth and in Scotland.

I hadn't caught one until last summer. Mind you I'd never really targeted them before then. There are a few pics on my profile.
