ZZiplexs

Hello Dave,
Long time no speak, hope your doing alright and not working too hard. I think the last time I spoke to you it was on my boat fishing ????
My you dont realise how much the fishing scene has changed until you have been out of it for a few years, shore fishing that is !!!!!. I am after a Zziplex rod but which one, mind I couldnt have had any better advice from Harry, Andy and the rest of the guys( thanks a lot)
Starting to look at the Zeteque carbon tip rods now, where to go for the blanks - that guy in Ireland just mailed hes got the standard ones in. Might mail him back and see if he can get one in for me ??? I the old Dream m/c, going back a bit now arent we - thats when there used to be loads of fish around.??
I like the idea of taping the rings on mind, the wife should be able to manage that no bother-
didnt make a very good job of the last rod she whipped up for me !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Might see you around sometime then ?????

Davey

Not heard of any grooved minimas yet!! I know diamite tip rings groove but minimas are lined and appear harder wearing. Beauty of them is they cost peanuts and with tape can be replaced. Lined rings last a long time but are so easy to break in a fishing situation, we've all done it when the rod gets blown over. Minimas just bend and keep on going so to me are spot on for fishing and casting.

i have a set taped on a rod myself to see what happens but imo they wont last ,yes you are right dyamite rings groove i dont like them but they are popular.

its everybody to there own i know harry prefers the fuji bnhg rings they are robust for fishing but with todays rods been slim and light the seem out of place on them to me.

a m8 of mine from seaham who makes a very good job of rod building prefers zircons but a prob for me with these as well the insides pop out .

rings a prefer at the minute is the polished chrome alconites, but on a pure casting rod i would go along with the minimas.

i hav,nt started this thread but if i may ask why do some think you have to have a real stiff rod for heavy ground ??.

Don't forget to find the spine and tape your rings on the inside (softer side)

Hi John,
Just out of interest what do you use when fishing the rough stuff ?

Davey

hi been a few yrs now since fishing rough ground but know the marks used to fish newbiggen area with harry.

i can remember fishing church point one day in april with a dying north sea big tide started fishing half ebb . i used a conoflex super flick tip with rotten bottom rig,

best days fishing i think i have had pulling codling in every cast , lead was getting fast but just snapping off rotton bottem leaving fish still on.

conoflex super flick tip i think most would say a soft rod by todays standards so it says to me it has,nt got to be a stiff poker,

low water at church point i couldnt believe the weed tangles i was casting in but it held fish.

forgot to say i only used frozen shore crab that day.

what would people describe as heavy ground seaham south pier /chemical beach/weed tangles/cliff top fishing or rock end fishing.

Owned a few LT bullets in the last few years, its the only zziplex that i kept going back to.In my opinion it`s a versatile rod used it in the river no problem as well as rough ground and had fish from the likes of craster, beadnell etc...good bite detection too.Fell into the trap that i think a lot of us do of looking for the ultimate rough ground rod or any rod for that matter, which obviously we never find...hence the small fortune we pay for gear all the time.Anyway back to the point,i found the LT bullets to be a nice rod lots of feel in the blank, hope this helps.

Still got my Super Flick Tip, lovely rod might have to take it out for a spin sometime.

As for the need for super stiff rods I don't get it either. About the time you are on about John I knew of a few good anglers using the Zziplex 2500 into the rough stuff - the beaches you describe but also to go up the coast to Northumberland.

For rough ground / pier work I use my M4 Evo and it is has plenty of guts, general fishing (including the cleaner shots off the piers) I use the Primo Synchro which is by far my favourite rod out of all the ones I've used over the years.

Had an LT Bullet which was also a very good rod (swapped it for the M4 Evo), as stated loads of guts but still good bite detection and really nice to cast as well. Wouldn't say no to another one (but I think the Mrs might).

Andy,
I had the 2500 and Dream m/c a few years ago and were excellent rods at the time.
When you work out how many rods you,ve bought, used and sold on over the years its frightening, as one of the guys said earlier looking for the perfect rod - never does materialise does it.
Back to the zziplexs, at least a couple of the guys have offered to loan me some rods to have a go at - will find out what will get the job done !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cannot wait to get home, 9 days and counting...
Thank again for all the feedback.

Davey
