Is it straightforward (nay possible) to connect a laptop/pc with a VGA output to a non flat screen TV using just a VGA to SCART connection? IE use it as a monitor type thing?

Or are there other things to consider IE hertz frequency type gubbins?

Tony there are VGA to scart cables available that will give you a picture but probably at a max resolution of 640 x 480 and quite likely a bit blurry. There are fancy more expensive video converter boxes available but would it be worth it to display on an old tv ? CRT monitors are so cheap these days and many give a great picture if you don't worry about the space they take up. If you want to spend a few quid you could get an lcd monitor around 20" on ebay for around £25.

BTW did you get round to installing Linux ? what do you think of it ? I am setting up a multimedia system with satellite receiver and was thinking of trying it.

cheers Jonny - been looking around the net for info and what you've just said about the cost in buying something that would work to suit my needs versus buying a cheapo flat screen monitor/TV seems to be the consensus :D

All I want to do is watch Iplayer/videos in the bedroom on a screen bigger than my 10" netbook :red:

no not done the Linux thing yet...but will be soon :)

...I'm OK Keith thanks...LOL ;):D
