I have\'nt owned an abu for a while, 2 questions are 7000,7500 any good for the rough stuff? and secondly are abu 8000c any good as well or are they just a boat reel cheers jordy...
abu seven pure cack..abu 7000 lovely rough ground real thats been around a long time but as jim says the penn 535 or daiwa slosh 30 with there faster retrieve make them a better choice for the heavy ground.
I got an Abu 7 as a spare reel £50 from E bay ,brand new mind ,runs lovely but since talking to the lads on here I realise I should have spent £20 more and got a Penn 535..bugger lol
Well it\'s as smooth as silk to cast ,quiet etc 4.1 retrieve which is not as good as the Penns 6.1 . I\'ve only used it on the beach so I\'m not too sure what it\'ll be like under pressure although my main reel is an Abu 7500 and there\'s not much difference between them as far as can see so far.
Dont choose any of the Abu\'s if you are wanting a reel to fish rough ground, the retrieve will eventually cost you lost fish and terminal tackle when reeling in.
Choose the 535 or the slosh30 which have a faster retrieve (which gets the fish up and out of trouble) less snagging on the way in.
People will spend 10\'s of pounds on bait for a sesh, but will not pay the extra £20 for a decent reel, dont make the mistake of getting an Abu for the rough stuff, go for one that you will have confidence in.
Abu are ok for beach/pier/cliff/light boat fishing into fairly clean ground but not the gully/rock/ kelp/rough ground fishing which a lot of people prefer..
I hope this helps
hi tala ,i have a sl30sh ,the problem is im a lazy git and like the level wind ,i have a 6500 mag elite and it handles the rough stuff at cambois ok ,i know what you mean about the retrieve you have to wind like a twat, but that said ive always preferd the abus over other reels ,i wanted the extra spool capacity for when fishing the river marks and the 7500 seems to fit the bill,i was going to get shot of the diawa but decided to give it another go,still a bit iffy on the thumbing the line bit but ill suss it eventualy i just need to stop the rod bouncing around lol its not the reel but the fact that it sits quite high on the seat, practice makes perfect i suppose
i had same problem first time out with the slosh until i took it to bits and found out they dont put any brake blocks in. :casstet: since then ok but line lay needs to be good.
7500c3ct good as a slosh in my opinion only 5.3-1 retrieve but a good reel.
yeh tz someone did say to check but when i took it apart both red blocks already fitted ,maybe the problem was it was new lol or then again more than likely the problem was me,anyway it seems to be sorted now but im still looking forward to giving the 7500 a go
alan the abu 7seven is the economy version of the 7000 i think there kicking around on e-bay for around 59 quid theres a few on at the moment ,might be ok for beach work but youd be better off spending another tenner and getting a better one
