me and carver20 could do with some help at the min lads as we are becoming diss hearted with blanking or only catching really small fish here is an example ive been fishing for about say 10years but only really got back into the swing of things about 3 yrs ago and the biggest fish i have caught is 5lb ling from a wreck biggest shore fish is 1lb codling and its not a cheap hobbie to keep throwing money at if i was catching then i wouldnt mind lol please help lads/lasses even if me and carver could join some one on a trip out (north side of the tyne) just so they can tell us what we are doing wrong or if its just bad luck

You can come out with us mate and you won't feel as bad. None of us catch much either LOL. We know the marks but just can't catch the fish!!

hi no need to get disheartened, bigger fish are to come yet jan and feb very good months but we need the right winds, last few years feb has been very good if you read old catch reports you will see were the fish tend to be caught, get yourself some good lug for when weather turns for the better ,white worm or white magic can come into its own this time of the year when it goes quite for a little while,if you look at catch reports now u will see nobody is doing much now but it will pick up just have yourself some decent bait ready.

you're prob not doing much wrong or different to most people mate - like Gregg says join any of us on a session and you'd feel better about yourself instantly :o;):D even the old and bolds out there have quiet runs

and as John says...there's LOOOAAADS of time left for those Cod ;)

small fish is better than no fish - catch a full house on a 2/3 hook flapper and it's still good fun :D

i cant catch on one hook never mind 2 or 3 mate let me know when you guys are next out and me and carver will join you if thats ok ( we need shown the ropes / door lol)

Mate, Tony (the great wallsendo) is out 2moro night and Phil (philitofish) is out 2moro daytime. Either of them will show you the marks they fish and they normally catch something. I'll gladly show you the marks i fish but like John says the seas are bad at the moment! I have just had 3 blanking sessions in a row and we tried everywhere and everything we could to catch! Get yourself along to the friendly match on the 5th and just follow some of the lads:)

Fished the Beacons at Newbiggen this morning NOWT not even a bite! Moved to the river tyne NOWT again 1 bite tho:) Phil had 1 bite aswell. We fished for 5-6hrs and used loads of baits including crab!

This is on the back of a Long session at Craster last week catching nowt and only a couple of bites and a 5hr night session at Newbiggen only gettin a few bites and again NO FISH!!!

Hope this makes you feel a bit better mate:)

Dont come to disshearted me and eddie t was at the cat & dog stairs and all i caught was 1 coalie smaller than a goldfish and 3 small rockling.

Dont worry - i was studying the local angling match results and it looks like 1 in 10 cod is a 5lb fish. The big fish are very rare.

If you want to catch fish, scale your gear down and fish little white plastic booms - I've had good size cod on them too and you get loads of bites due to better bait presentation.

I'm heading to Blyth beach from about 1800 for about 4 hours or so...I know the seas are crud but I'm going there anyway...:o:)

Tactics:question:

Scratching rig first cast - 2/3 hook flapper with small baits

Next cast - normal size bait on a single hook or pennell

at least by trying both you give yourself options - and maybe a size fish

Baits:question:

rag, mussel and maybe some frozen crab if I'm feeling flush ;):D

I think Phil is going to fish the river. Prob the Walkway (south side of tyne) or under the bridge. I'm at work:( might make it out 2moro night tho.

Dishearted..? Frustrated...? Angry..? Feel like kicking your gear off the end of the pier...?
Well don't despare..

Welcome to the world of Angling!!!! thats what fishing is all about. hours and hours of nothing then 5 mins. of glory

Never give up, your next cast might catch you a fish of a lifetime.:)

Ive been trying for the last 30 years and had a few fish of a lifetime, but mostly just blanks...

Keep at it....;)
