you got chart cartridges already?? might be worth looking for one that will take you're existing charts..

No mate the one I have is the eagle ultranav 2 which is just a gps system and fishfinder combined. the fishfinder works great but the gps is hit and missy. just been looking at the northstar 550 looks ok for the price, and I dont need out fancy really. been looking on Ebay but fancy buying new.

Cheers..

northstar is exactly the same as navman, OEM'd through a different company instead of plastimo

I had a mono navman 5500 on the last boat, there's still afew around at the £160 mark, easy to use and was dead reliable but the garmin 182 have come down in price now, bigger screen, full colour and most ar under 200 quid

with either you can buy a chart cartridge at a later date if need be

Am I right in saying that i can stil use these plotters without a cartridge and that I'll still get the map and features up. never had a plotter before just the gps. is the cartridge just for more detailed info.

yup. You will get a base map of the coast built in with all the navaids etc. Just add a a cartridge when and if you feel the need

Cheers mate going to go for the garmin 182c if I can find a good deal. got them on ebay new for £199 with £15 del. that seams a canny price
