Sonik Rods

Hi All
I have bought the Sonik MK3 14ft Rough Ground Rod, got it at the Factory Shop at Blyth only tryed it twice up to now. First at Newbiggin cliffs and then at Cresswel high rocks both are rough grond marks. Will be out again a couple of nights next week to try the rod again, up to now carnt fault it coupled it with my Slosh 30 & Pen 525 super mag in the reel down position it casts a 6onz sinker and bait no bother and at Cresswell pulled out of kelp snages with ease. Only managed to catch a couple of rockling but the rod detected the bites straight away let yous know how the rod performs after a couple of more seshes.

john.

isnt this is what this site and others like it are all about getting different opinions from pepole who have actually got the tackle in question or have tried it not slate the product before it has had a fair chance to prove it self over time I will be buying one and will post my opinion when I have tried it seems like a good way to get good gear at a reasonable price to me

bought one on Saturday. Got the 13ft fixed spool. Took it to the local playing fields to try a few casts and was really pleased with it. Was instantly casting 30 to 40 yards further with it than my old cheapo shakespear beach caster. Went out on blyth pier today as I was up that way for me dinner at mevlass's mams. Was windy as feck but the tip was pretty stable unlike what others have said. Only thing I can say about bite detection as I spotted every bloody crab that stole my bait.

Did manage to pull out of a couple of snags easy enough. Hopefully christen it with a fish later this week when the conditions improve.

which reel did you use with it

I've got a bog standard okuma reel but I've just ordered a Penn surfmaster 850. Is it possible to gain distance with a better reel? Ordered it as the okuma is starting to show some wear.

Update

Hi All
Fished Newbiggin Cliffs Wed - Thurs night still carnt fault the Sonik MK3 14ft rough ground rod casts well - bite detection spot on. Dont want to keep this thread going forever so i wont report back on the rod anymore unless something goes wrong. But up to now i am Well Pleased.

john. :)

just been reading through the thread about these rods , and see lots of positive input about the products . Must say these rods compete with the top end british rod manufactures, although they are produced in the far east, the technology over there is quite remarkable with tooling and manufacturing techniques alike, with no compromise with quality.
You get what you pay for, at it,s true value,a fishing rod thats built for the long run. when we tested these rods recently, they got no special treatment, a good thrashing on the field and they delivered some very respectable distances every time ,and they definately have my approval

dont want to start all this back up but Ive just got a sk3 14 ft had a few chucks down the tyne and I must say Iam impressed off out tonight to give it a good workout with bait not even going to say what the shop said about the rumours :rolleyes:

sonik rods

back to the original question from sfj21 , bought a sonik sk30blah blah the 13 foot one for the rocks ,anyway first time i used it 4th cast center of the tip ring come out session f%$^ed 2nd time i used it it snapped about a foot from the tip so in my opinion sfj m8 absolute scrap ,would be p£$"ed off if i got one given kidda ,but like i said thats my opinion ,

I will be quite honest, if I needed another rod I would quite happily buy a Sonic. I have had quite a few different rods and only had one snap on me (a very popular brand too) and no it was not a Grey's rod. The rod that snapped was sorted out for me and I would happily buy from this company again too. I have only owned one Grey's rod, a Mercury and for some reason just couldn't get away with it. That wouldn't stop me from buying a different rod from their range.

I still have lots of different rods so no need to buy any more the way my back is now. Including mickyo's rod that makes a total of two that had snapped up till this week. Considering the amount they have sold this is pretty damn good I would say.

Every time a new rod comes out the scaremongers come out preaching their doom and gloom yet none of these people have even seen the rod they are putting down. Usually a "someone who my mate knows" or "someone my cousins mates uncle bought a Gerbil from" but always someone very obscure that never ever has a name.

Go with what you think jordy but don't take notice of the merchants of doom lol. I have tried four of the range and was very pleased with the way they handled.

Jim.

Remember when it all kicked off about Greys rods,i had an apollo mk2 never had a bit of bother with it used it everywhere.
