its a mic with two flat anvels a dial gauge and a lifting leaver lift the top anvel
and lower to trap the line there is no crushing of the line as the spring is so fine

hi martin, i forgot to mention my last few years on inspection i started to use an elastic band for measuring tie two knots at each end and use the knots for measuring you never find i job wrong just the way they like it it dos,nt stop the jobs going out does it if you send all them corrections out and concessions they dont like it. i used to work with a lad called bobby farina worse than me for drink ,he used to fall asleep during the day on the inspection tables with the drink off the night before he used to have about 10pints on a monday afternoon before a nightshift on the night. i used to show problems with jobs to inspection foreman ie plug gauges not going thro holes he used to get mallet and knock it thro and would say there you are it does go thro great is,nt it

I can't see what the problem is with thinner lines. UKSF rules state minimum line diameters for various lead sizes, with no + or - tolerance (note these rules may be different for other organisations).

So if you want to use 0.35mm dia line in a weight class which states that a lower diameter line can be used then do it, you would be within UKSF rules.

In a sport where the object of the exercise is to cast a lead as far as possible and where generally, casting distances increase as line diameters decrease, then any reduction in the minimum line diameters for each weight class is a positive move. Bring it on is what I say.
