some advice please chaps,
lad i fish with is after a new rod, he's been fishing about 1 1/2 years and is starting to take his fishing more serious, so he's got around £100/120 to spend, hopefully he can get a rod which will bring his casting on a bit. I was thinking along the lines of sonik sk3 (heard a few issues with the rings?) or rt axellerator (a bit stiff maybe?)

advice welcome please fellas

cheers neil

Ron T's are a stiff thing mind so wouldn't be too good if he fishes the river much. Maybe able to come across an older tip tornado for £120 if he's lucky, excellent rod IMO ;)

id go for a second hand top quality rod rather than but a mid range rod brand new

always some decent rods around that price mark second hand on here in the forum, / in the free ads paapers / ID fishing byker / Second Rose South Shields / Trading post Sunderland / Billys North Shields

Only this week when in ID i seen they had a Conoflex Nemeses Premier in for £120, He was Selling off his unused Century Shorelines for £100 and £130 (excellent Rods)

Second Hand Rose had a Conoflex Maverick Five in for £55

All depends what type of fishing hes gonna be doing to what type of rod to go for.

Your right on both counts mate, the sonic although a pleasant blank the rings are toy town and R.T is a clothes prop. Have a look around £120 will get you a very decent second hand rod,try the for sale section at the bottom of page on here or billy's in north sheilds sometimes have a good selection of second hand rods

aye the sk3 is a lovely rod but true the rings let it down you would need to be very careful with it,mines been rewipped with fuji shock rings dont no about the other rod you mention.

Shorelines a good general purpose rod for that price. Century blank I believe, nice rods

I know a lad that will swear by the shorelines, lost him loads of belters just at the bottom of the pier wall he reckons! As for the RT i would only advise if fishing the rocks n cliffs and even then they are heavy compared to others and would be no use to someone new to fishing or an improver.

Yeah, they were made for John at ID by Century on special order years ago.

so they are a cracking deal - i seen he had 2 left, one £100, and the other £130 - the the big rack nearerst the till facing the counter...

both unused - and are a excellent all round rod.

i used the RT ex and had many fish on it from pier and other marks think its a good rod for its price if ya can get the original 4-8 ounce one

Cheers for the input fellas, the lad has managed to find a century g5 supasport which seems really user friendly and should help his casting come on a bit with some practice

cheers again

neil
