Five people turned out for the meeting and it was agreed that unless more people are willing to help, this years Boat comp would be CANCELLED.
Another meeting will be held at the Earl of Zetland ( Royal Quays ) on Tuesday March 28th at 7.30pm to see if more people will get involved in helping to organise the comp.
If no more people turn up at the meeting, then the 2006 NESA Boat Comp WILL BE CANCELLED.

well said Mike, just to mention the to the people who turned up were,
Mike, Norman, kieth, Ian, and myself, we know there are a few others who would have attended, but unfortunatley had other commitments

I would have turned up but It was cold outside with a threat of snow and rain and I was too WARM and SWEATING because of my Super Dooper central heating system.

Nah, I was really working Bob but the heating is champion. Unfortunatly or fortunatly for me, I won\'t be able to attend the next meeting either as I\'m away on holiday on Thursday for 16 days but I am more than willing to help in any way I can. I will strive to attend every meetining I can, It\'s just my work load has increased more in the last year than previous years.

Will do what I can though if it goes ahead.

Knew I could rely on you Mark, ;)

4 hours travel will be worth it for you, you t**t.

Or 1 hours travel the way you drive (1/2 hour each way) :D

As I mentioned I\'ve been to work as well ,to be honest I was expecting an e mail tonight listing my jobs for the comp lol ( thought I might have been over volunteered in my absence )

I am sure, out of over 1000 members, we can get at least a dozen to help with the comp.
Can i sugest that if the venue for the meeting is a problem for some to get to, can people sugest an alternative meeting place?

the venue\'s right, its often timing thats a bit iffy. no matter where you moved the venue there\'ll be big travel involved for someone.

there\'ll hopfully be enough fresh(ish) ideas to make roles clearly defined this time, and hopefully, one person won\'t get lumped with the lions share of the work (clare!)

that said, having lots of people to organise might be a bit pointless, if there\'s not enough interest in folks wanting to enter

There were a number of items discussed at the meeting about reducing the amount of work for everyone, even to the point of only having prize money and no table prizes. Finding people willing to donate prizes is getting harder each year. Would everyone be willing to fish if it was only a monetary prize table??

There have been a number of people volunteer their services (thank you) on the day but we need at least one person for each charter boat and one for the private boats which I think amounts to about 7 people.

We then need 1 person to sort the bookings/ take money/ allocate places. This as others will no is a thankless task. I have suggested it being e-mail registration only with a limit to 5 days to pay after that. That may result in some people not being able to enter. There are 1000 apparent members on this board, I would have thought out of that we could fill half a dozen charter boats.

Apparently Frazers Angling are having a boat competition the following week which may take away a number of private boat places. They may well be able to source a better prize table.

The weather was discussed…..will we really be lucky for the 4th year in a row and think of all the hassle if it had to be cancelled due to bad weather.

The main topic of conversation was the lack of response to everything, even those who may want to fish it.

If this comp doesn’t happen this year the skippers are going to be a tad miffed and after volunteering again may well just tell everyone to stuff it in future. That’ll mean no more comp ever.

So if you want the comp to go ahead I think you need to get off your arses, pull you fingers out and do something about it.

Just think of it as north Vs south event and I’m sure we’ll be able to fill the boats in no time

I\'ve already mentioned to clare, but wondered what the response from the rest of the board would be to online registration/payment, ie paypal or soemthing of that ilk, a simple web page where those that want to fish, stick their name down and pay their money there and then

I\'d guess it\'s one of the most ball-aching of the tasks, chasing/collating cheques etc, so if done that way, it makes things a whole lot easier, and could be one of the key issues that decides wether the comp happens or not.

would folks be happy to do it this way?? I\'m sure exceptions could be made for those without a credit card, but for the majority of us.... whaddya think??

Ian ,Brian from Frasers has donated to a few of our comps through my cheek and friendliness lol , he said the last time he\'ll donate to every comp. we have .
