Okey Dokey.............
Errmmmm.......no gloating over the French failure please........lol

So, London is gonna host the 2012 Olympics.
What are your views on that?

Good for Britain.......or just good for London ?

Personally, I think it\'ll be great for the East End of London, but the rest of the country won\'t see any benefits whatsoever.
Why does the whole thing have to be on one huge site in one tiny area of the country?
Could the Olympics not be organised along the lines of the World Cup or the European Football Championships - ie held at different venues around the country?
That way, many more areas of the country would benefit from the creation of new sporting venues AND the benefits to the economy would be more widespread.

In comparison to many countries that have hosted the Olympics we are a VERY small country.
Personally I would like to see it run the same as the world cup. Lot\'s of different venues used.
Not a likely plan but a good idea Imho.
St. James park has allready been mentioned as a venue for the football but I don\'t think that is enough. Not a problem with that before it is mentioned as I think the Newcastle supporters would make it one of the best venues in the country.

We in the north east will see very little of the games apart from what is seen on tv.

Jim.

LMFAO Bert :D

Agree with you both TC and Jim, it should be spread around the country, but I\'ve got to say a big well done to the team involved in getting them here.

I have a lot of friends and relatives down in and around the Smoke and fromthe general opinion down there a lot of them don,t want the olympics as this only means increased taxes of all kinds and the ordinary folk don,t see any of the benefits. As Mark has stated, it will only be the big Corperations in and around London that will benefit from the games. I to agree with TC and Jim, it should be spread around the country.

I personally believe it is good for the country. Many people will come here not just for the games but to explore the country as a whole. It will also inspire the youth of today to get off their butts and participate in sport instead of sitting infront of the TV or Playstation.
I\'m getting into training for the \'Cod catching\' event where I\'m expecting to do as well as Eddie \'The Eagle\' Edwards.

agree that the games should be spread out and maybe then a few small businesses might get a slice of the action. Congrats to all those who helped to win the games.

WOO WOO hang on a bit, just got out the bath (do most of my thinking in there, nice and quiet) and have had a rethought. Yes it would be great to share the events around. BUT was it not the city of London that put up the money (millions) and the plan to promote why they should have the games. If we want a share should we of not at the start have said look heres is a couple of million towards the cost of the promoting and in return we will build the athletics arena and the same for other big cities. The city of London put their necks on the line at their cost to win them so best of luck to them. If they want to use stadiums around the country for events, such as the football then we should all be thankful, or we should of helped or put in a bid of our own.

the bids are funded by the british olympic comittee, which in turn is suppoorted by various sources such as the lottery, in the same way that a few years back manchester was having a go for the games

considering todays events i hardly think it matters

Don\'t let the bastards grind you down Bri, it\'s exactly what they want. As for the Olympics even this angry (insert applicable) man thinks worse things have happened, if things are done right it should be great for us.

It may also embarrass the powers that be into buying back some of those playing fields they sold off and make the beardy sandal wearing anti-competitive sport nazis have a long hard stare at their attitudes.

It will certainly inspire loads of young athletes to try to become Olympians. 7 years away, that means kids as young as 11 /12 (younger) could aim to get there. Hey any of us could dedicate ourselves to winning an event, air rifle shooting counts! Dressage FFS! Synchronised swimming, piece of piss.

nice one ell, if theres entrys for strange events why not tounament casting ,we are thebest in the world at that ,top man the longranger would get us a gold for starters ,at least we would win summat :D
