Had another day off work today so went down to SSP for about 12.00. Heard there was mackerel at the end so went down for a bit sport.

Didn't take long to get my first macky this year, just using a 60g Zenith. All the macky getting caught were a good size. My mate Sean had one which dropped off as he lifted it out the water, it must have been close to 2lb.

Also had coley on the spinner, but then I switched to float fishing the wheel side, and didn't take long to get my first pollock this year. We fished with Dicky Oliver most of the day, and he must have had about 30 pollock on a set of daylights just dropped over the side.

After high tide I went onto my big rod and fished from the brass ball, using mackerel and sandeel, I had a couple of half pound tommys and another coley. Dicky had a good codling of about 2 and a half pound.

We left the end about 5 o'clock, but I fancied having a go for a wrasse at marks spot. Only took about 15mins, using the float, a size 6 Chinu hook and Ragworm, and I got my first ever wrasse.

I think it's a ballen, and it was only small but well chuffed with it (I tried loads for one last summer but never got one).

Had a cracking 2 days fishing :D, but back to work tomorrow, and not a day off for ten days:(

A great couple of days fishing for you Andy, thank god you're going back to work so there's some fish for the rest of us :D
Looks like a ballan to me mate but can't be certain from that pic.

Might of only been 4 species! I'm starting to think the pollock was a coley! Had loads of coley already this year (and had a few today) but the fish I got on the float looked more like a pollock, but looking at my pics now, I'm not too sure

Sorry but its a Coley,

A Pollock has a sharp curve in the lateral line

A Coley Doesn't

Thats what I was thinking, I sometimes just go by the colour of the line, black for pollock and white for coley, and just quickly assumed this was a pollock, but looking at the pic, there is no curve there.

Ill take my entry off the species hunt thread.

No worries, I dont think it'll take too long to get a pollock this year.

No doubt you will mate, the black path is a canny mark for them but it can be snaggy, weedless jellies work well

Plenty pollock around the blocks on shields pier mate.... A float fished live sandeel will pick out a few big ones for ya. My best last year was just short of 4lb from there. You will defo get one pretty soon mate. Good looking trip! Well done
