I serviced one for a pal recently (bought from new) and must have scraped about 2 tablespoons of blue grease from the thing, it was absolutely choked with the stuff around the gears/pinion - in fact everything under the side plate was dolloped with it. After a good clean it was fine - I can't remember if there was a faint click when winding, but it certainly doesn't "tick" like a slosh.
New gears sometimes need to be worn in also check the clicker set up on end plate as the click pin could be jammed ;-);-). Also check the i.a.r. bearing on the drive shaft this might need grease cleaned out lubed and checked, as you could have a faulty one.
