Hi all, I'm currently using a penn mag 525 which i am having a few problems with. A just think it needs a good old service. The thing is a woz wondering if any1 can tell me how different in use, not apperience the penn 525 mag 2's are to a normal 525 mag? Because i am thinkin i might treat mesel to 1 next week.

Get one, you won't be disappointed. The new mag system works a treat and is more controllable than the older type of the supermag.

25lb or 30lb is far to heavy for this size reel, prefers lighter line. Just leave the mag on full if you have a problem with casting it, no line lift whatsoever.

I was a bit sceptical about the manufacturing moving to china but can't see anything wrong thus far with the build......majority of stuff nowadays is made in China.

i had the old 525 mags mate now av got the new mag 2s the ar a much beter reel nice and smooth and good magnet controll, i wud think about the new 515 av got 1 with 15lb line on it and its smooth as out

id have to disagree that 25lb-30lb line is to heavy. why is it?

ive got 50lb shocker & 25lb ultima F1, mag set to two...watch the reel empty!! :)

Mag 525 Mk2 + line.

Mag 525 Mk2 + line.

Hawthorn is spot on - used mine with 26lb line then dropped to Diawa sensor 18lb with 60 lb shockleader - works a treat. Paired with a Sonik 4 14ft - really happy a settled with performance of both
