7/10/11 Fishing the river

Started fishing around 1800 on Friday evening at the old ice factory on the riverside (N.Shields)

Myself and Parky (check out his catch report for a cracking Coalfish!) had stocked up on just about every bait we could get our hands on, and after a couple of shocking previous sessions we were determined to land ourselves a decent size fish.

First cast yielded an Whiting for myself, undersized, but started off the session on a good note none the less. Things got quiet for a short while after that, until landing a 1lb 2oz Codling which I was ecstatic about as I had never brought in cod weighing even a pound! He was caught on lug worm and peeler crab on a size 2 hook.

After the sun dipped beyond the horizon we ended up shifting locations to the pier where we continued to fish into the early hours. knocks on the rod were sporadic at best, that was, until my rod tip practically had a epileptic fit and i was treated to reeling in a beautiful 2lb 8oz Cod, breaking my personal best for the second time in one night! This guy was caught on lug/rag worm cocktail and mussel, and must have been hanging round on the sea bed for some time picking off small flat fish as when he was gutted, that is what was inside his stomach.

I honestly could not have asked for better night out fishing. Bites were not very frequent but the ones that did happen were worth the wait! and excllent night all in all, good company and a couple excellent catches :D

Canny night still shattered had plenty of small whiting coalies and then this on rag and mussel Reminder to self bring more crab lol
