Hey guys as most will know i bought a 7ht mag second hand. When I turn the mag below 5 it makes a noise inside like the magnets spinning or slipping is this normal with them?
Cheers When i was turning it the reel had no line on. Now I've put line on it it doesnt make that sound so probablys that. Also how tight should you have the spool? does the knob on the reel side need to be tighten until theres no play on the spool?

Check that the mag assembly is correctly fitted. If it's not put back together correctly you will wear away the plastic mag cogs. You can get the bearing off the spool spindle by gently squeezing the pin out with pliers. Be careful not to damage the spool though!
Unless your tournament casting and wanting ultimate performance I would suggest just giving the bearings a clean on the spindle. A squirt with lighter fluid should clean out most of the crap. Allow to dry before reoiling.
The end knob should be used to centre the spool and there should be a tiny bit of side to side slack. If you tighten the knob up too tightly you will over time distort the reel spindle or screw the bearings.
A good setting for the reels is about 6 for fishing, it will give trouble free casting even into a headwind. You can knock the mags off mid cast for maximum range but only in a tailwind!
