A BIG thank you (NOT)

I would just like to post a big thank you to the PRATT who ever he may be, that was piloting a Port of Tyne Authority boat beside the rat house when i was fishing today.....

Not only was he trying to land the boat on the ratty but also managed to strip most of my line and my tackle away......Why do they need to come so close in when they can clearly see people fishing.

I was'nt the onlt 1 fishing so had no exscuse to say did'nt see me....even the other lads there said it was close....... Sorry for the moan but boils my p-ss.

i know how you feel i was fishing at spillers once and a boat came in reely close and took my line rig and wieght

im not sure why they do it but ive seen them lots of times coming in realy close to the edge as if they were doing it on perpose!

Nobody else reeled in...........yes i did see him..........the point im making is unless he was wanting to moor up why come in that close.......one of the lads next to me said he's seen them do it before.....

Not trying to stick up for the skipper as such, but boats do have a right of way & anglers are supposed to reel in or not cast when a boat is approaching for any reason.

im with you dazza boats pay a fortune to use the water(not the tyne authority to be fair) and there are assholes who make a game of snagging anglers tackle. certainly in amble in the summer people not reeling in is a major prob to the point where local council have talked about closing the pier to anglers

Least a boat owner can do is warn people though "Wind in please lads" is a start. We've had to come close in on a couple of occasions (on account of the steering wheel falling off and .....) :red:

Fishermen need to be very careful with the pilot boat, he can stop people fishing from the rathouse,you should always give way to boats, the pilot boat does come in very close somethings.A long time ago he used to blow his horn.

I can see both points of view, being a shore fisherman and from a boat however the comercial boats dont give a sh*t about the shore lads. totally petty but they do it on purpose at times, I'm sure!

The authority boat may have been doing a survey and explain why he was so close, I see both if not three sides, shore angler boat owner at Amble marina and merchant navy deck/navigating officer.
Common semse prevails most times but if a vessel is constrained by her draught you have to get tight in to keep out of the way and avoid impeding her passage. On a personal view as a boat owner I would have no reason to want nylon and a 6 oz griplead around my prop! And at over a grand for a budget berth at Amble marina most boat owners pay for the use of the harbour.
Equaly some boat owners are just to##ers for the sake of it!

exactly right mate, I was on the rat once and the pilot boat crew were polite oin all aspects, asked me to reel line in, told me it was ok to cast , reel in again cast out again all whlie he slowly went past taking photos all along the rat house jetty and when he had finished, politely thanked me and went back into the river (p s i was also wearing a newcastle utd hat)

one thing anglers anglers need to remember is jetties, piers, wharfs and alike they were built to aid ship and boats entering harbours safely and not for anglers to think they got the god given right to fish where they want

but it does nark me when some boats seem to delibrately head straight for lines

Dunno about the Pilot boat these days as it seems to stay clear of my line when i'm fishing in the river,maybe i am just lucky but the Pilot boat 15-20yrs ago was a pain. Used to always deliberatly go for lines & on one occasion i seen 1 guy throw a sinker at the boat, not a smart response but not exactly good of the skipper to target lines for fun.

Cant speak for commercial or larger steel hull boats but from a small to medium boat owners point of view I see (as Graham mentioned) there would NEVER be a reason to deliberately run over lines. The very thought of line wrapped around the shaft and bunching up on end bearings along with the thought of 6 oz of lead being spun thousands of times a minute and bouncing of the hull sends shivers down my spine .........
