A few days at the Mull.

Hi lads.

Just had a few days at the Mull in some glorious weather. My aim was was more Bass after my success last year, and a few Pollack as well.

Tuesday

Arrived about 3pm and after checking into my digs and getting sorted, it was plugging rod in hand to the scene of my success last year. I wasn't to be disappointed. Standing in the shallows, with not a breath of wind, the place was a picture

I could see baitfish being chased by unknown fish until this little fella swam up to me :)

After seeing a couple burst the surface, my first bass wasn't long in coming, a schoolie about a pound. No pic I'm afraid as it had taken the all three hooks of the treble in its mouth so after getting it out, I thought it was better to get it back straight away. I fished for an hour or two more with another 2 rises at my plug but no further hook ups.

Wednesday

After getting in touch with my mate Kev just outside Sandhead, we arranged for a bash at the Pollack on his boat at teatime. This gave me plenty of time to do some more bassing :).

Things were pretty slow at first, then the first one launched itself at my plug and that was the first of the day..

They weren't massive but they don't have give you a scrap. I got one other schoolie before I decided to call it a day.

We sailed out of Logan for the evening flood, heading south towards Crammag, stopping off on the way to bag up on launce and mackerel. With enough bait, off we went past Crammag to the cliffs....

As you can see, it was flat calm, and expectations were high. Fishing started off steady enough, with Pollack to 4.5lbs although I got one that I couldn't stop as it headed straight back to the kelp, so that was the end of that. This was the best for me....

The last hour and a half were desperate. We tried loads of marks, but the Pollack just wouldn't feed.

Thursday

Crammag and Bass were on the Menu today. First off, a couple of hours plugging. I hit one on my first cast, then one on my third. With in half an hour, I'd had 3 out, and then the breeze came from the south and blew the weed in. The mark I normally fish later in the tide was unfishable, so with another one making four for the session, I decided to call it a day.

.

Next up was Crammag. After negotiating the electric fences and bulls, I arrived to find someone must've snapped their Rod Thompson rod...

With the breeze picking up and the front absolutely mental, I settled for a sheltered spot to the right of the lighthouse. Sport was slow to start, with a couple about a pound falling to sandeel on the float. I changed to long strips of mackerel and was instantly rewarded with a battling 4 pounder (Sorry, no pics - the camera on my old phone packed in :? ) I got another about 2lb before I decided to finish up and head to the digs.

So there you go. Thoroughly enjoyed my few days, and I'm totally addicted to plugging for bass. Theres something about standing in crystal clear water and seeing the water erupt when a Bass breaks surface to attack your plug.

nice one davey ,that 1st bass spot looks like some ware i hit as well , surprised you bother with the boat being such a goat (still laugh the time you got geff stuck great pictures as well mate :)
