A few questions lads?

Digging out the old boat tackle as I\'m sick of blanking from the shore. Obviously things have moved on since the last time I was out - 30lb mono, prame frame chrome rippers and white cod feathers!!!
I have a 30lb class ABU rod and a Daiwa 400h reel and what I want advice on is:-
Will I be able to use braid without a level wind?
What weight of ripper (pirk) should I be using? (off the Tyne)
What kind of trace should I be using now?

Any other advice would also be greatly appreciated.
Cheers lads

RobA, answers (if I can)
braid, yup no probs without level wind , I never use a levelwind reel
Ripper or pirks around 12oz or better 14oz
traces, anything really strung above the pirk or ripper try daylites (but you`ll probably get a load of mackerel, or hokkais but maybe still mackerel or muppets. (or of course theres loads of choices of RoyD Lures)
Good Luck

Cheers Norman, advice from the main man so it must be good!
A few more questions though lads?
What colours work best with rippers and traces (white feathers/chrome rippers in my day but orange / red / green seem to be used now?)
Trebles or single hooks on the rippers?
Will rod rings handle braid or should I have a roller top /rings?
Thanks again :D

RobA LOL main man .. no way LOL try bert hahaha

anyway rollers .....???? I keep away from, although I hear they handle braid ok I`m not convinced YET !
as for colours ................. it`s usually personal choice but i find inshore for smaller cod to about 5lb they go for green ........ but offshore over wrecks , orange is always the best ..... just my view LOL :)
hooks, always have treble on bottom of pirk ...... just to make SURE i loose it in the wreck LOL :)
good luck

orange or red lures for cod brown or darker colours for pollock always works for me,And yes norman royds new translucent fish lure is going down a storm

keith what is the double hook red muppet rig. please tell or pm me if it is secret (norman in confidence - LOL)

Just tied like a set of daylites but with muppets, the ones I got (50p per set :D ) have the bottom hook right next to the sinker clip so ya bait is right on the bottom. I had bought 50 sets, but after saturdays success I\'ve just bought the rest of his stock :D :D Not bad, rig consisting of 2 hooks, 2 swivels & 2 muppets for 50p. I aint tried the red ones yet, but can confirm the orange and black ones work well :D

I\'ll stick a few extras ones in my box on tuesday ;)

just a normal muppet rig then mate - i thought it was part of the secret hand shake fishing club LOL (or should that read the lucky gits who have caught a double cod) LOL

If the Fishy Fella is smiling on you it doesn\'t matter what you stick in front of a fish! Allthough salt and vinegar does catch more than cheese and onion IMHO
