A rare trip to the coast.

Well it's not often I venture into here apart from the odd well done but Keith and I actually managed to get a few hours fishing in tonight.

We started off at Crawley's, it's probably the only rock mark I can get onto now. We only had a couple of casts, to be honest I don't think it felt right at all, and neither of us were confident of pulling anything out. We headed to the Tyne, just beside the Ice house or should I say half Ice house as quite a bit has gone now. We had a few casts with nothing to show from the little bites we were getting and decided two more casts and we were off home out of the freezing cold. Keith started to reel in after a few bites and it was obviously a bit heavier, a Whiting saving him the blank. Mine was on it's way too and was a lot heavier than when it went in a very plump flatty saving me the blank and a Tesco carrier bag to put it in :o :o :D :D. Very thoughtful of the sea gods I thought, but decided to let it grow a bit bigger for someone later. One fish each on the same cast, you couldn't make it up lol. One more cast each and the cold won, we decided that was it and started the cars while we got changed.

When we left it was showing -2 on my dashboard, as I got along the coast road it dropped to -3. Newcastle saw it drop to -4 and Gateshead -5. I was dreading what it would be when I got to Consett but it held steady at -5 until I got to Ebchester and it dropped to -6. Shotley Bridge back to -5 and into Blackhill where I live and up to -4 quite balmy for December in Blackhill lol.

Not a great nights fishing but really enjoyed as it was my first since last February and pulling a fish in was a nice bonus too. Hopefully out again next week but on a high water mark as there are a few of them that are a lot easier for me.

As soon as I got in tonight I had the kettle boiling while I washed my hands, for a nice coffee laced very liberally with Drambuie :D :D chugged that down and made another even stronger one. Finished that and now just relaxing with a nice Whiskey and Coke, warm enough inside to be able to add several large chunks of ice lol. My legs are like two strips of warm Spanish (that's liquorice to all our younger members) but besides that I can't wait for next week, you have to love masochism. :D :D

Well Done on getting out Jim...t'was freaking cawld out there tonight - we were at Cambwaah fishing our Fur and Feather where Gregg managed a little un and lost a couple of good uns (I blanked :red:)

Roll on the Boat Fishing Season is what I say :D

welldone guys you managed to save the blank and yes its bloody cold out there tonight i fished only 3 hours taking a undersize codling the cold got the better of me i glad am home and warm too :)

Glad you enjoyed your night Jim and Keith. And the fish showed up too :D Well done.

Sounds like you have been in the Tropics compared to me. My trip to Glasgow today showed the temp at minus going up the m74 with a clear blue sky and sunshine. Coming home tonight it hit minus 15 :o The washer bottle had frozen solid at this point so I have been trying to make out where I was going in between salt and muck on the windscreen. I am supping a glass of mulled wine to thaw out :D

Next time I will stick to fishing with you and Keith :D

Hahahaha it was a lot lighter going home than it was heading for the coast. Did I lose a load of weights? No not one in fact but plenty of mint Humbugs lol, very tasty :D :D

Coddy, I was pleased I took a few handwarmers tonight, after baiting up with Crab (that I had to thaw by hand) I couldn't feel my fingers on my left hand. I have pins and needles permanantly on my left side but they were damn painful then.

Bad luck with the blank Tony, I think that makes the cold feel worse mate.

Ali you can keep your -15 mate I have only once been in cold like that and it wasn't nice. I bet you were pleased you were in the car lol.

Jim.

I couldn't believe it as the numbers kept changing :o! I have been skiing in minus 11 before but driving in it is a whole different ball game although I have to say the m74 was totally clear and with a clear sky and bright moon it would have been a pleasure to drive. It was the spray messing the windscreen and not being able to clean it that was the biggest problem. Had to stop at every service area and spray some de icer on and then clean it.

Baiting up in the cold isnt my idea of pleasure :D

My washer bottle doesn't freeze up in the winter. I mix my windscreen wash rather strong as I like to see where I am going. It also gives me my alcohol fix when I am not allowed to drink too, ask Steve :D :D :D You could drop a stink bomb in my car and kill the smell by washing the windscreen lol I used it a few times on the way home tonight. Last week below my screen was still covered with snow but there was two little blue holes all the way through it :D :D :D

Well done on getting out (and catching) Jim and Keith, i was out all day myself with only small codling and coalies to show for it. let's hope you have better luck on your next session. :)

Not a lot of fish caught but the crack was great, I feel like I have just finished the great north run :D :D :D. Just had a nice bath and that helped a bit but I doubt I will be going far for a couple of days. I'm just hoping that the sea comes away now and starts dropping the day I get out next week, not asking for much :D :D :D

Jim.

Congrats on getting out & catching - the sea was starting to come away a bit last night & I think we're forecast a few days of N/Eeasterlies so keeping fingers crossed that things will begin to pick up :):)

Cheers, Gary :)

Well done on getting out Jim. I can vouch for it being hard work. I used to lift wieghts three times a week and after a session fishing it feels exactly the same next day--aches all over.
Mick.

Hi Jim,
Sorry we didn't get to see you but Rod's codling radar was flat out (not). Jeeze it was cold on the hands on Monday wasn't it? Think it was probably a bit heavy for Crawley's what with the small tide and all. Will post a report when I get the chance but Eileen bought me a turntable to convert your LPs to your laptop so I've just set it up and am listening to the AWB (the one with the woman's a**e in the title) as it copies. Could be a while as I work through all my 33s.

Aye it was a pity not to see you but you are right about the cold lol. I was pleased I took a few handwarmers with me as my left hand was agony. I am going to have one of those turntables too, I have a couple of hundred 33s I want copying.

Jim.
