Hello mate and welcome
I was the lad you were talking to when you were digging worms at Blyth, you showed me what to do :D remember ;)
Theres a Private Message facility on the left under Modules if you cant remember ;)

Well done bud37......great effort for 1st try at uploading a photo.

You\'d everything right except - when you uploaded the photo to the .cibs server, you used a CAPITAL \"H\" in Huss - when you came to post the picture, you used a small \"h\" in huss. I just changed the \"h\" to \"H\" and it works fine.

Oh BTW.........Nice fish ;)

cheers
mark :D

i can see it now
very nice fish
the cleadon club are going to craster on 11th february
might get one myself
not

Nice one bud.

It looks a bit like a dogfish in the picture though, rather than a Bull Huss .They are similar but the Huss tends to have larger spots.
The only way to identify them properly is to turn them over and look at the nostril channels. The grooves leading from the Nostrils connect to the mouth on a Doggy but stop short on a Huss.

The doggy in this pic is on the left

Standing with arms aloft ready to be shot down! :D

Neil.

Lol Neil......nice to see some happy, smiley faces :exclam:
Mind you, they don\'t look too happy when viewed the right way up, though.......lol

Stewy,
try knocking off any firewall you may have running - they sometimes block images from being shown........DON\'T FORGET TO PUT IT BACK ON AGAIN, THOUGH :exclam:

like neil says huss tend to have noticably larger spots
have caught lots of them in wales among the doggies, and got to know the diffrence

BULL HUSS (A.K.A Greater Spotted Dogfish)

Very similar to the lesser spotted dogfish (above) but the bull huss also has dark patches along it\'s body. Normally found in deeper waters, rocks and wrecks.

I think the record for dogfish is about 4lb 12oz so that would be a good sized doggy IMO. I agree with what macky says about the spots, but they do differ depending on what sort of ground they are living in. Sometimes they have very dark backs, sometimes not so dark. The nostrils are by far the best way to determine.

BTW, Trefor Pier in North Wales is a top spot for both LSD and GSDs by the dozen up to about 8lb although these days the pier has seen much better days.

It does look like a dogfish from the photo, but camera phones aren\'t the best, even in good light. I caught 3 large dogfish from Carsluith last year (3lb+) and they looked very similar in size to this fish (judging by the size of the sinker in relation to the size of the fish). I have noticed that dogfish taken fron sandy/muddy bottoms are a lot lighter than those taken from rock marks, although the spots are still the same size.
