A thing of beauty

Hope it works!!!

Hopefully 10oz.

Found a design flaw already, the thin end of the norways is too narrow for the bought loops, luckily the ones made with Bert's invention work a treat.

Well it works:

Needs a couple of tweaks, pins to hold the loops and the dowels are too long so it's difficult to open - HINT HINT !!! :D

Not getting the finish I expected on the pirks, I think because the joint surfaces are so smooth it's totally sealed and air can't escape.

Any ideas?

I read a forum for making lead bullets and they talk of "smoking" the mould, presumably this gives a carbon coating.

Keith
we used to coat ours with carbon, just a candle and hold the mould above it, let the soot from the flame coat each half.

When the pirks start getting difficult to remove again then do it again.

hope it helps

Bees wax thats the trick, just add a bit to the melt and watch it pour smoother it burns off and you would think it did nothing but Peter Trott from cornish Lures told me of this one(RIP Peter)

I used to add some to the mould before getting it warm as well worked a treat for the session

They aren't sticking, just the finish is poor, I'm sure it's cos it's a totally sealed chamber apart from the pouring spout. I've notice the UK Hooks CNC moulds have a few small vent holes.

If I block the air intake of my gas ring I get a good yellow flame that should be the same as using a candle?

Sean, how much bees wax would I add to say a 20lb pan of lead?

Not sure why I'm worried about a fine finish anyway, don't suppose the fish will complain :D

Cheers chaps!

Aye keith you've had it made so good theres no natural venting as the faces fit so well :) :) vents is the answer (or shot peen the mating surfaces) :) :0) it's just too good as it is keith :)

Keith i used to add about a big sugar lump size for each melt so i suppose it was about the same

I used to buy a block of pure from ebay its now about £6 + free postage for a 1 lb block which would last you a couple of years

Hope this helps

Sean
