Well we got past the piers at amble about half 8 greeted with a beautiful calm sea and the sight of some dolphins going about there business. If only the fishing lived up to the weather tried all over sticking to within a mile of coquet island and ended up with 3 cod and 1 whitey between the 2 of us. the wind picked up about 12 ish along with the swell so headed back in 3 ish, mate wasnt our clever as well. loads of boats out and about but nowt seemed to be geting caught. gps was playing up as well so couldnt get to any marks. used squid and mack on the hokis.

Still a good run out though and the sun was shining, theres always next time.

If your out and about coquet island watch out for sun bathing seals in the water I nearly hit 2.

Well done, we are off tomorrow afternoon once there is enough water over the sill at the marina entrance. We are are going to head North for a change. One of my mates was out on tuesday and had a load of whiting mixed in with odd codling and coalies around coquet island.

I was out there today too , I nearly froze to death , we went out at 5am and stayed till 1pm behind the island, I was sick all day and had to put two coats on to keep warm, the sea might have been smooth but I couldn't cope with that swell . My mate managed all right , and we caught 3 cod and a few coalies? I think, maybe whiting or both after reading your report. Yesterdy I was trawling the internet looking for a bigger boat for sea fishing , tonight I'm seriously considering not going out there at all again :(
I love fishing , and I really want to go out and catch cod , but if today was a perfect day I've got no chance . It was quite foggy a lot of today too , even with the chartplotter telling us where we were it was a bit scary not being able to see where we were.
I couldn't change my rig without being sick , otherwise I'm sure we'd have done better with the fishing ........and where are the mackerel ? lol.

I'm sure by next week i'll be dying to get back out there:red:

Keep the faith. I think its still a bit sharp around amble yet for any serious action. The picture I took above was at 9 by 12 there was a big swell came in and sort of ruined me mates fishing through sickness. Its a diffrent day when the fish are there and the sun is shining.
never chanced it out there in the fog though especialy around the island, there a big ridge of rock comes out to the north of it which nearly caught me out during the day.

Another week or so i think...........

Should have a new plotter to play with then as well

I'm already planning my next trip :) the sea sick feeling has been overpowered by the will to fish lol.
I used a plotter for the first time yesterday , as we launched visibility was reasonable , as we headed through the peers it was very patchy but we could see other boats out there , as we neared the half way mark to the island we couldn't see the peers or the island and i began to wonder if I was doing the right thing going out. We actually navigated round to the rear of the island purely by the plotter , I knew of the spit of rock and gave it a wide berth even though it was high tide , when we arrived at the back of the island I looked at my mate and said "we are here" , he looked around into the fog and said "are you sure? , we could be anywhere"
About 8am the fog suddenly disappeared and Amble and the island were bathed in sunshine , by then I was feeling decidedly queezy , I don't know whether it was the mix of fog and swell that did it or just the swell but once I felt like that it seemed impossible to shake it off.
I think it did get a bit easier at some point in the day , but by 1pm my mate had caught a couple of nice cod and I didn't feel so bad about telling him I'd had enough and had to go back in. He wasn't too bothered ;)
When we got back to the slip there was a boat "HELEN" parked in the middle of it on a trailer , we couldn't get out anyway as the tide was too low , when there was enough water to trailer the boat we had to trailer it and pull it round this other boat to get out of the water , the guy who owned it turned up as we were doing this and explained he couldn't get help to launch when the tide was up so got someone to help him put it there at low tide
He seemed a decent enough old man , but If my boat had been any bigger we would have had to wait another couple of hours to get it out of the sea.
I wasn't very amused , but he helped pull my boat round his and up onto the slip behind it so we parted company without any exchange of harsh words.
I paid for a yearly slip fee anyway , so I have to go back out at least another 6 times or it was a waste of money :D

Are you using the public slip by the yacht club if so theres a much better one at the amble boat club about 200m up river. you can launch there at vurtualy any state of the tide. Not a bad price for day launch as well.

How do I find it? Is it in the same place as the public slip , I noticed a boat club entrance off to the left as I drive in to the public slip , is it in there? Who do I see to use it ? It sound a lot better than the public one.

Check your PM's Ray Ive sent you through some contact details. Yes it is the club of to the left with the barrier. Theres a public footpath that goes through so you can have a nosey anytime.
