Cheers for the input guys. The 525 was going for £90 ish in the end, there is no way i'm paying that when you get postage on its only £25 cheaper than new thats just insane ebay has shot up now people are to daft with prices!
Hi Mate,
The first 'proper' multi I had was a second hand 7ht. These are excellent casting reels for beach work only.
Ive got a 10 year old Abu Mag Elite (green). Superb to cast with but rubish for bringing in anything bigger than 1lb.
I ve just started using my 525 mag (mark 1) its decent to cast with but nothing special, very powerful tho, could be used at a push on mild rough ground.
Ive also got a Slosh 20 but the jury is still out on casting, very strong tho.
I think for casting i would go for an Akios 656CM.
For general alround fishing Penn 525 mag.
But dont pay over £60 for any 2nd hand reel off ebay, you are better off waiting for a decent 1 off this site.
Cheers,
Lee
mk1 525's are my fave reel and I've owned the majority of reels on the market! There all I use now. I fish clean ground, heavy kelpy rock, cliffs - anywhere and a 525 will do the job.
Abu's are a fantastic casting reel. Sweedish 1's are better quality. As long as you pump the rod instead of just winching then they "can" be used over mixed to heavy if needed. A friend of mine managed a 10lb 8oz bullhuss with a dogfish on the other hook using an Abu 6500.
