It's the red turbo one mate, its at £60 at the moment, i'm used to magnetic brakes though so will it fluff up with it not having any or are they beginner friendly?

My opinion mate a hade a penn 525 mag extra slidy but h8ted it but a lyk the slosh30 r 20 good to cast and good for all kind ov fishing but all penn reels r good

if your just fishing clean to mixed it should be fine but
i will say the abus dont handle pressure well at all in
my opinion! one of the best casting reels though!!
be wary of ebay mind mate sometimes people get carried
away and end up paying more for a secondhand reel
than when it was new!!
hope this helps mate!

ummm don't know what to do really I like the look of the abus but reviews say there rubbish compared to the sedish made ones. I think it may be the penn 525!

you dont know if you like it till you try it mate:)
as scotty says he didnt like the penns but prefers the daiwas
so its horses for courses its all up to what you prefer at the
end of the day mate!

Not a reel for the beginner mate, anything but. Like others it has the cetrifuge system if you need it. If your casting technique is ok and consistant this reel will get you great distance but if you slip up yel end up with a giant birdy:D. Lovely smooth reel and pretty solid IMHO. Is able to cope with rougher ground and I understand you can get a pinion support for peanuts, just for a bit extra security like.

And the new penns made in china are crap just lyk the new Abu made always go for the old Abu and penn that's my opinyaing

Cheers for the input guys. The 525 was going for £90 ish in the end, there is no way i'm paying that when you get postage on its only £25 cheaper than new thats just insane ebay has shot up now people are to daft with prices!

Hi Mate,

The first 'proper' multi I had was a second hand 7ht. These are excellent casting reels for beach work only.

Ive got a 10 year old Abu Mag Elite (green). Superb to cast with but rubish for bringing in anything bigger than 1lb.

I ve just started using my 525 mag (mark 1) its decent to cast with but nothing special, very powerful tho, could be used at a push on mild rough ground.

Ive also got a Slosh 20 but the jury is still out on casting, very strong tho.

I think for casting i would go for an Akios 656CM.

For general alround fishing Penn 525 mag.

But dont pay over £60 for any 2nd hand reel off ebay, you are better off waiting for a decent 1 off this site.

Cheers,

Lee

see what i mean mate:)
you can still get the odd bargain on there but second hand
reel prices have went threw the roof like you said sellers are asking far too much
and the p+p is a joke at times aswell!
at least if you buy new you get a garrentee or buy
secondhand local so you can have a good look at it before
buying!!:)

Yeah so true mate I have one of them akios reels on my daiwa rod and they are superb I was looking at getting the shuttle but for some reason I am drawn to the daiwa 7ht mag they look amazing could these be used over a little rough ground work? Sorry for all the questions guys i dont like parting with money until I know im happy with a product lol. And thanks for your input its appreciated!

100% agree lee mate!:)

mk1 525's are my fave reel and I've owned the majority of reels on the market! There all I use now. I fish clean ground, heavy kelpy rock, cliffs - anywhere and a 525 will do the job.
Abu's are a fantastic casting reel. Sweedish 1's are better quality. As long as you pump the rod instead of just winching then they "can" be used over mixed to heavy if needed. A friend of mine managed a 10lb 8oz bullhuss with a dogfish on the other hook using an Abu 6500.

true mate! ive got a 27yr old abu 6000 and thats mint in the weed! it has a lower gear ratio than the 6500 but it wiped the floor with the mag elite:)
if only we could get a reel that casts like a 6500 and has the gears of a 525!!
we can only wish:D:D
