seeing posts about old abu reels got me thinking,im in my 50s and remember buying a abu 7000 (red side plates) from a bloke that used to sell second hand gear from his flat (behind the hunting lodge in monkseaton, any one from this area remember him(big bloke) he used to fish the rex prom a lot, must have been the mid to late 70s early 80s.also buying a 7000c (black side plates) from a shop that opened next to the Alletsa ballroom near the sea front, think the guy that sold from his flat might have had something to do with the shop.if i remember right the shop didnt last that long.great days using a conoflex flick tip and a 7000 fishing whitley beach-lol

abu reels.

abu reels.

I love them. Started fishing 35 years ago plus and i always remember the old red 7000. Out of my price range.
Me and my mate Peter Norris went to a shop in Middlesbrough and we each bought a abu 8500 in blue. It was the best and most expensive reel i have ever bought. In fact if you have a look at this lot there is a picture of t.
Vintage Fishing Tackle -- & related item's
Just got back to fishing about 5 yrs ago and bought a second hand 7000 off e-bay tough as old boots and still going strong even though the paintwork has came off and it looks sh-te.
Also learnt a lesson of dabcatcher one day on Steetly. 7000 is no good for flatty bashing. I bought a 6500 which is top notch and its not a mag.
Mick.
ps My main reel is the 525 supermag. 6500 as first reserve. and the 7000 for rocks.
