abu rubbish

just wondering do many of you still buy abu reels? as the abus of old were bomb proof, but the crap they have churned out for them nowadays is utter sh$te, cheap and nasty components light as a feather, and tinny, your thoughts??

whats the best make at the minute i use an abu 6500 c3 ct mag elite (green one) ?

1 x 6000C - 1973, beauty my first reel I could buy myself - 2 weeks wages

1 x Abumatic 120

I know I should get rid of some but every time I see a good old one I buy and rebuild it.

Do you think I need to see a doctor ?

ive got the penn 525 super mag and the mag extra very good reels and the daiwa st very nice reels never liked the abu

yea i think you do.....but if you want to get out of seeing the doc you had better send me some of them reels lol nice collection

not just the reels,i won a abu smock and sallopettes in a comp before they were total pants let the rain in no bother proper ****e suppose to be waterproof,its just not good enough

Av just got rid ov my Abu 7000cs the dark begandy one and Abu 9000 for 65 qwid for both now have mag 525 and a Abu 6500c3

I've got an abu 6500 ct elite blue and abu 7000 C3 burgundy both made in Sweden. Bought these in my teens been well used and still mint condition.

Would buy abu again if build quality returned.

Bought a Penn fathom 15 recently which is made in china so far so good.

Dibs on buying a 9000c if the doctor come knocking on the door for you haha. Pretty sweet list going on... hope youve got them all lovingly cleaned and shiny, stored away from the the miss' just for a secret peak every night befor you go to bed!

I have a old 6500c3 ct elite, got no issues with it, had a 5500 c3ct mag elite too, wish i kept it to be fair!

I use exactly the same reel mate and find it ok. i've never tried to reel a 20 lb cod in yet like. i use it on rock marks and beach and piers, had no bother with it.

not sure if these ones were swedish made or made elsewhere. guess it would say somewhere on the reel if i looked.

i have got my sights on a slosh 30 mind, when i get a bit of cash that is .

They may be built in China, but I think there mint!

The mag system is much better and so is the new 'clicking' star drag and centrifugal break system.

I have both the 515 and 525 mag2, and after using them for a couple years now, there brilliant! I've never had any faults with mine, and I've used them on practically every type of mark and terrain and they ain't let me down yet.

I got to agree all the new Abu reels are crap, i bought a new abu 7000i cr ct mag and the chrome has started to peel on the cross section and its only one year old and i have always washed it on my return from fishing, also Gary at ANGLERS UNITED LYNEMOUTH had to strip it down and set the plastic internals again and its still not right, Give me an old old abu anytime, streets ahead, Chinese probaly left to go for a takeaway but the reels as other people on here say are sh1te, stick with Penn 535,525 or a slosh for that matter they seem to be almost bomproof or go for a 20 year old well looked after Swedish ABU, HAVE A LOOK AT THE penn fathom 25 looks like a cracking reel with no level wind and should stand the rigours of fishing
