I'm no web expert but as far as I can gather someone has tried to "guess" two members passwords. They probably use some sort of software to do this.

I suppose we are all at risk of having any internet accounts hacked, if they got your NESA password they could post as you or read your pms.

I have to admit I'm lazy with forum passwords, we should use a mixture of upper / lower case, numbers and special characters.

lol
This...this is OUR cod!

I guess the expectation is that if a NESA password is obtained the victim may well use the same password for other sites.

yes.totaly agree, that is the danger.

the uni nerd who tried to hack my account and failed had probably tried loads of others and failed but he only as to have one success in thousands to do some damage and that is the one he will brag about to other geeks,...they never brag about their failures.

Whilst the forum is low level and not much to steal here, the trick goes something like :-

get into forum with a guess password (easy one as it's only a forum)

when in forum get personal details like email address

use email address and using the forum password (from low level guess) then construct a better guess to enter email

if into email the world starts to open with lots of old emails around maybe other forum memberships showing password used, or a fresh password if you had requested it. This then has your "style" of passwords making it easier and easier to guess at higher levels

also in email could be "your statement is available" type of thing from a bank account ........

better not go any further than that .

All up point is ....
delete old emails when read or store them outside your email account on disc
use different passwords and as different a style as possible for different accounts

sorry if it all sounds bad ... but it is, as was said in a previous post they only have to be successful 1 in a thousand to progress to your cash.the other 999 are lucky ... this time

norm :(
