Had area chucks at the walkway last night with the wrong tides being the bearer of lost gear ::mad:then we spot the police helicopter out further up the river and thought nothing of it until a huge car carrier was entering port under the tugs supervision an heard a massive honk of it's horn which was unusual at 10 at night then again to which my mate said there is something playin chicken with the carrier then the helicopter light lit up a little vessel with 3 young lads on it which I presume they had stolen it doing figure of eights around an incoming fishing trawler then headed out the piers until the pilot shot out to take the vessel back. Who steals a boat just or a joyride its not as if there are much places to run it baffles me

It was the only action we saw down there last night. I only spotted the stolen boat when it shot past close in and nearly had my line. When my son said it was three kids in the boat I thought they would go round the Groyne and ditch it on the beach, but they headed out towards the piers with the pilot in pursuit.
It was like a rubbish, slow South Shields version of Miami Vice!

i was fishing the tyne down jarrow and witnessed this myself, the boat was rite infront of us with the chopper light right on it, was shining rite on us at 1 point. We seen it coming down from right up past hebburn sea police station so god know how far up the river this started also dont understand when they were going past the hebburn police sation why didnt they just send a boat out to get them there ? they were literately doing circles infront of it

well at least you got some entertainment as i havent sean any catch reports off last night :)
hope they get more than just a ticking off

was it a little red boat if so i seen one at the fish quay going round all the moored boats on the south side of the river next to the marine collage
