Adice Wanted, Leg Operation.

Hello all,
I'm after a little bit of advice if possible. I've been gettig a bit of bother with my legs and after putting up with it for a while it turns out that I need an operation.

The valves in the veins at the top of my legs are knackered and they are going to cut my leg at the groin and also at the bottom and then "strip" out the veins.

The consultant reckons I will need 3 to 4 weeks off work but I was wondering if I'd manage to still do some fishing in this time. I don't fancy 4 weeks or more of no fishing.

I'm sure someone will have had this operation so I was hoping for some advice.

Cheers Lads, regards Ian.

wouldnt rush a thing m8 your consultant is the man to approach on this :exclam: what on earth is the hurry :exclam:

Thanks Bushwacker, have you had this operation?

There is no real hurry but I was only wondering if I could manage a bit of fishing still. Also I look after my elderly (82) Mother and do her shopping and messages a bit each week and I'd still like to do this if possible. When you talk to your consultant they always advocate total rest but in reality this is seldom possible.

Regards Ian

And you ask on here for advice lmfao

he will have done the operation before and will know the recovery time :):)

do as you like and you might end up worse than you were ;)

Yeah you're right too Lug.... I'm probably being a bit stupid aren't I.

I was told it was an operation that wasn't that uncommon and just wondered how other people had faired.

Thanks again, I'll give myself a shake :)

Regards Ian

Because I wanted to.

Thanks again for your input, I've tried to answer in a pleasant manner but it seems to me that you're looking for an argument.
You won't get one from me, I apologise if for some reason you have taken offence to my post.

Hi mate.

Around 4 years ago, just before me 15th birthday, i had an accident on roker pier, slipped on the end and really fooked me ankle. A had torn some ligsments, had a fragment of bone lodged between my ankle joint, and had a bad but stable and aligned twist fracture to me tibia just above my ankle. I was in hospital for two days before they performed the operation due to swelling. I had my op and they fixed up everthing, but ended up having two pins fitted to my leg internally. I left hospital 5 days later, and 3 days after that I was away fishing at cresswell on a family trip. It was very uncomfortable having them pins in but the fishing was enjoyable. After that in the six weeks leading up to my second operation to remove the pins, I must have fished at least 5 maybe 6 times.

I know this isn't the operation your having, but am certainly sure you should be ok as long as you take it easy and don't push yaself. I work in south tyneside hospital and know lads there who have had the same operation as your having, and they were wright as rain and up and about after a day or so after there operations.

Hopefully yours will go just as well and you make a great recovery (and time to spare fishing!:D)

Tight lines,
Andrew.

Ian,just use your head, your body will soon complain if it aint happy.far better miss a few weeks, than do some permanent damage, and miss years.

Hi Ian

Sorry to hear about your poorly leg, could be down to bashing your piece on the "T" stands all those years ago. if it's any help, I was up at Beadnell with Kieth Irving many years ago, three days after being neutered. I caught my personal best cod that night, (12lb). Could possibly be an omen!!. Let your body rule and not your head, if I remember rightly you used to take half a tackle shop with you, in your box. Travel light, remember getting to the mark is only half the journey, and standing around will add to the strain, before the return. Good luck with the op and take care, hope the hospitals a clean one. Best wishes
