Just bought wr300 mint condition, had to have it cos it was only £120.
Saving for new reel,so any advice on best mag reel to suit would be
much appreciated,cheers lads. Dan.

nice one on a good bargain!

Im a avid fan of the 7HT Mag for sheer distance - so if your looking to hit the horizon this is the one. But its a soft work reel.. not for heavy cranking

But i also have a Penn Supermag Extra which offers a lot more virability in settings... and is built like a tank - this will winch in anything. Still gets a hellish distance.

Also had the ABU Mags... which are great if you get the swedish ones, but again soft work reels and a bit inferior to the 7HT mag.

So to sum up - clean beach huge casting go for the 7HT mag

if you want a reel thats nearly a good performer, but a lot tougher and all round performer for any type of - Penn Super Mag Extra (go for the one with the big knobby on the end)

You need to decide where your fishing!
7ht mag for very clean ground - not much in the north east!
525mag extra mixed ground and line below 25lb

lines 25lb and above you need
Slosh 30
535 mag its a good heavy reel but you need to upgrade the bearings, than standard ones are shyte!

You really need to invest in at least 2 reels

If i had to pick it would be a 525mag and a slosh 30. I have a 7ht, but its rarely used.

I swear by 525 mags, i take it to the extreme and usually take 4 out with me with different strength lines on. They are ideal for the vast majority of NE fishing.

I also have a slosh 30 for the really rough stuff.

I would honestly say start off with the 525 (either the mag extra or supermag extra).

just what i use and have only used penn mag reels but most good reels will get you fish in ;)

All the reel's that people have talked about so far
are good but have you had a look at the Daiwa
Saltist range? As i have a WR300 and i use a Saltist
20H on it for the beach and the pier and when i
fish the rock marks i put my Saltist 30H on for
pulling fish out of the kelp. The two reels are
very fast out of the box to start with but you can
make them faster if you want and they are built
like old brick **** houses (very strong). Mine have
never let me down once. If you want to have a go
with one just let me know and you can have a go
with mine.

Thanks lads,i have a slosh 30 and a mint 525gs which is a brilliant all rounder,
so i will probably go for the Penn mag extra.
Thanks for the advice, roll on Friday when i can get out to play. Dan.

Saltist 30H is the way ahead, it will winch in anything and casts like a bullet straight out of the box. High retrieve ratio as well.
