is it better to fish when the sea is rough or the day after? heard different things but I class the fellas on here as pros in the know and always take the advice, looking at forecast theres gonna be a csnny sea this weekend but didnt know wether to go then or monday straight after its been stirred...

cheers lads

It depends on the mark Simmo, you'd be better off mentioning some marks you're thinking of fishing, then the lads will be able to give you an idea.

the rivers will be ok in any conditions.

the piers will depend on how rough it gets.

but... generally as soon as it drops off is the best time for a cod.

the tide the sea lifts rarely gives much, but once its been moving a tide or 2 there should be cod about.

if your only after whiting and flats, calm conditions and smaller tides are best.

thanks dabcatcher, im after cod preferably mate, forecast is seas up sat n su nday so monday or tuesday would be best from a pier is thst right? I was told that on a rough sea the fish head into the rivers, u heard thst or it crap?

Anywhere up to the first gate on shields fishes when theres a massive sea on and a big swell running into the harbour

You wont get on roker when its massive mate, it fishes well after a big blow but most of the time its flattened right off before they open it and most of the fish have f*cked off.

The rat house and high ledge in the wear are always worth a chuck when theres a big sea on as is the walkway in the tyne.

Agree with all of this, although if they're big tides, you can pick up some good fish off Roker if its flattened off rapidly. The inside of Roker pier is well worth a go as well, after any sea with easterly in it.

a big sea can push fish into the river mouths as can a big tide as the fish travel up the river with it.

i dont think that it will get very big this weekend though but there should be some movement.

great thanks very mu h for your advice and knowledge gentleman, much appreciated, ill have a look at the sea over the weekend and c where I should try, gonna be out to fish the tide all the way up and back down again so might try several of ur recommended locations

If your fishing during the day then i would go for Shields pier, it always seems to fish better on a dying sea during the day and not as good during darkness. Tides may be too big though, might be better hitting the rock/cliff marks.

Going from north to south on the southside of the Tyne i would consider Frenchmans Bay over high water, Camels island over low water, the Three shelves over high water, North row ends, Souter, Wherry, Gunpits and Mudhole all over high water. Looking at the forecast i dont think sea will be huge so all should be safe enough with a sea running.

cheers mate I dont know any of those but sure theres a map somewhere with them marked on it, do u lose much gear at those spots? I take plenty anyway

cheers pal, had 2 blanks so looking to chsnge my hunting ground, never fished cliffs but fancying frenchys, hopefully throws up a couple decent cod, wherever im going im fishing tide all the way up and back down again so heres hoping

If i was out i would fish the first of the flood on the pier end then go to Frenchies over high water. Depends on how big the sea is though, theres plenty of easterly in the wind still so should be spot on. If its really rough and theres a swell running into the river mouth then the bottom and of the pier will fish aswell from the Brigade hut to the first gate.
I wish i wasnt working all day!

spot on maethanks for the advice n thats whT im gonna do, ill let u know tomoz how it went thanks very much for ur help mate much appreciated

just found frenchies on the map mate, do u fish from the cliff point to the left into the bay or go down into the bay itself and fish? sorry for all the questions mate its just I havent got a clue on marks lol

You can fish the point casting towards the pier or towards the point on the other side of the bay. I prefer a flat platform about 50 yards back into the bay and then cast towards the pier, might be a bit muddy with the rain we have had, also the point is a bit unstable at the minute. Theres no access to the bottom so any fish you get has to be lifted up, hope you get some action mate.
