I'm after a new (second hand ) casting ,medium/ rough ground reel. I fancy a Penn 525 mag or a Abu 7000mag high speed.
Does anyone own/used or have any advice on either of these reels?

It's the mag reels I'm interested in. How high does the 7000 sit on the rod compared to the Penn?

525 is good my mate swears by them ive got an abu 7000 its strong as hell for the rocks and not a bad cast

Cheers, suppose it's prob down to personal preference. There's no doubt both are work horses but I'm swaying towards the Penn for the casting.

I have both the 525 is great for clean to medium beaches but wont take the line you will need for heavy rock fishing to get enough line on you would need to fish 18lb or low dia 20lb if you push boat out get a 525 and a slosh 30 for heavy work just my thoughts others will differ

525 mag every time great casting reels and hold enough 20lb line for fishing purposes, field no but fishing yes the 7000 is a bigger reel than the 525 and harder to hold but still doable.

I've got a slosh 30 for the heavy and a Abu 6500mag for the clean ground and casting. I like the simplicity of the abu's. It's more of a casting weapon that I'm after to punch through the onshores we will hopefully get!

Penn, as its simple to adjust the mags in a strong head wind unlike something with brake blocks etc.

Cheers everyone. Il have a look on eBay for a 525. I can't post on sell or wanted here for a month or 40 posts , so eBay it is.
Had a look on tinterweb and the reviews say the same as you guys, il definatly go for the 525mag

if you like your abu reels and your on facebook have a look on The fishermans locker its a group on there or NE angling allways gear going round bloke got a abu 7000i c3 ct mag in good nick for £40 on The fishermans locker looks a nice bit of kit if a had the money a would have it myself

After what people have said on here and reviews I read last night, it's the Penn I'm after now.

525 all the way I have one loaded with 18lb for beach n one with 30lb for rocks on places like lynmouth,
Got the bigger 7000 series for cliff marks.
525 is bomb proof and sounds perfect for what you want mate

Just have done, to be fair his are £80 and I've only got £70 (2 kids and a fat bloke with White beard on the way!) See what happens. also I can't drive at the moment and I've seen he is in Sunderland and I'm in north Newcastle.
