afaw match or tourney match

Tourney Match is a lot more powerful - much stiffer in the butt & very tippy, needs winding up properly to get the most from it but is still ok overheading at shorter range. The regular match is a lot more through-actioned but still capable of good distance. The TM is my number one choice for clean to mixed ground fishing - Tip Tornado SM's & Zzippies went the journey once I got mine a few years back.

Had both and the big beach mk2 is the rod

I had the original Big Beach, which was a very nice rod too - don't know what changes they made to the Mk2?? But that was more of a good all-rounder; the TM is definitely a more specialised rod, very sensitive tip for a rod that'll chuck 200g.

Gary :)

If your after a match type rod then tourney match, std mk2 match or a Zziplex m4gt would be good choices. They all respond best to a pendulum type cast. If you fish reel up and marks like Tynemouth pier then the shorter rod would be a good choice otherwise the longer tourney match is better for 6oz and bait. As the spick has said the big beach mk2 is a great all rounder, much better than the mk1 which had too soft a butt. If you want a really powerful rod with a match tip have a look at a txl gt. Will chuck any lead yet still show bites. A bullet gt is another rod with great bite detection.

Yes, I'm not sure what changes were made to the standard match in it's Mk2 version - I was comparing to the original. I must admit, having been rather underwhelmed by the Zzippies I've had in the past, that the TXL GT looks a very nice rod. I've only seen little Peter's in action - hadn't realised it had what you'd call a match tip though (i knew there was glass in there but thought it was still quite a beefy tip). I haven't had the guts to hang a 200g + bait on my TM yet (I was pretty cautious the first time I put a 175 on to be honest, looking at the slimness of the tip, but was very pleasantly surprised. I get the feeling the TXL GT might be more the rod for the bigger weights? I might have to start getting some pennies put aside shortly.....

PS - what's the overall length of the TXL GT?

the t match is the worse rod i have owned bends in strange places feels weird when wound up with a horrible slow recovering floppy tip would not cast any more than 6 ozs without the tip folding in the t rock is a much better beach rod than the t match with equally good bite detection or in my eyes the best siff butted rod with match tip is a wr300 all tge power you need with in my eyes the best bite detection out there and you can use it on the beach a pier a cliff or the rocks ideal all rounder yes the butt is a bit numb but 1000 times better than the t match

thanks for replies lads lol.Think the zziplex`s are a bit out of my price range for the moment.Had a few other suggestions as to a similar rod to TM,one of these being the Leeda ikon power rod, obviously price range is a big saving anyone used or use one of these?

Any lads got experience of both these rods? Other than the length is their any real difference.Cheers.

yes had both tournie match more tippier than tournie rock and stiffer bottom bit of rod.

tournie rock opposite way round stiffer tip end more give in bottom end of rod.

personaly myself dont like them for fishing carbon feels steely to me.

AFAW TORNAMENT ROCK is as good as ANY fishing rod on the market in my opinion, it will handle 200gms + a big bait has excellent bite detection whatever range your fishing at and will drag fish from the thickest of kelp. I would also point out there have been very, very few genuine breakages of these rods (if any at all), this might be down to the rods being designed by a top class angler who obviously knows what is required when designing rods for different types of angling. Many anglers are under the false impression that in a rod has to be mega stiff for it to be a powerful rod this is IMO absolute rubbish a rod needs to bend to be used properly. The number of anglers currently using rods that are far to stiff for them to compress is staggering and anglers should be buying rods that suit their casting ability rather than listen to the garbage being shoved down their throats by cash hungry tackle dealers.

I have a TM and love it for clean to mixed ground, certainly my favorite rod, however I would say it is comfortable with a 6oz lead, any heavier and it starts to struggle.
